Default Why I don't like Vizio

Link to article

This is a review of the new Vizio 55" LED backlit LCD. I have gotten into a few discussions with a few people in the past of how they feel Vizio is the latest and greatest thing and that they cant tell the difference between this and a Sony or Samsung. Read the review and maybe the reviewers can tell you what I see. They are cheap, but you get what you pay for.

I dont care if they like them, just when they claim them to be better than majority of TV's out there. I havent been able to describe it with my words, so hopefully this article does better than I can. I actually saw someone claim them to be as good as a Pioneer Elite once.

I wouldn't say they're BETTER, but I can say they are COMPARABLE. To my eyes, it's no worse than a Sony or Samsung.

Maybe my eyes suck.

I know I just opened a can of words with this thread, but I hate seeing companies like Sony lose money over these guys which arent as good, but have a business model in which the lowball the competition.

You can't have every company be "top of the line." Some of us need lower-level models.

P.S. You didn't open a can of worms. Most people here bleed Sony and loathe Vizio.

Honestly they are made for the lower end beginners TV. Most of these that i see fly out of Costco are for kids rooms, second rooms and bedrooms. So you don't need top end there. I have a Visio in my bedroom and it works fine for what i need their. No that my bedroom setup is complete i may upgrade the TV but i will bring the 46" Mits out of the basement and put it there move the Sony from the main room to the basement then upgrade the Main room to a 60" Elite Plasma if i can get my hands on one before they go away. But back to the subject why be judgmental of something that help the more common non-audio driven folk to enjoy HD programming. The more that is bought the better to get blu-ray more into the fold. Cause more times than not when i see the TV i see a blu-ray right along side of it and they can do both now comfortably for a grand and that's not bad to enjoy a much better picture than I'm sure some people currently have.

You are right, they would be the uneducated. Again, maybe I am going about this the wrong way by making a thread like this, but this thread really is supposed to be educational on why Vizio's shouldnt be compared to the likes of higher end brands and the great TV's that are out there.

Also keep in mind not everyone has 20-20 vision. In addition to that not everyone see's the same detail or anything for that matter. Artisitc/creative people tend to be able to see more subtle details than a non-artsy type person. So even if you do see a major differrence there are plenty of people who won't see the difference and if they do they may not be seeing as much of as difference as you do.

you could put 2 TVs side by side or even 2 different pictures and point out the differences before people will notice them. And even if you swapped them around on them, they may not be able to pick out what you jsut showed them as the huge differences you see may only be subtle or non-noticeable by them.

To just say someone is uneducated because they don't see something the same way you do doesn't mean they are uneducated. Their eyes just may not be as in-tune as yours are.

I have my Sharp so I don't care what other people think about other brands. This is a useless thread.

The only thing that is comparable, is the fact that there both LCD's... Vizio's are ok, they let people get into HDTV for cheap.

I understand the premise of the thread maybe renaming it would be beneficial as i totally agree that they should not be compared to the higher end sets but compared in groups as in low middle and high end. Visio is not trying to compete with the high end but has to have ad language that suggest that they are close to spur peoples interest to come and view their product. But a side by side comparison would be foolish IMO to promote their product as being at the high end level.

That review is not even the 551 (LED,240Hz) Vizio. Its the 550 120Hz.

All brands (usually) make several levels of quality items.
Samsung has 650 - 750 - 850 - 950, right?
Is the 650 as good as the 950?

So even within their own warehouse, the major makers have great and less than great, right?

Have you ever seen someone try to compare a TOTL item to a different brand of item that is in the lower class? Sure! We all have!

Can you find similar items from different brands across the varying levels of class? Sure!

Can you show me/us where someone is trying to compare a POS(any brand) to a 950 Sammy?

With the way the economy is, I bet there will be an increasingly larger ratio of Vizio's being bought than the higher end LCD's or Plasmas as in recent years. I feel they allow entry into the world of HDTV. They serve a purpose and they do it well. However, I agree with LOTR07, doing a side by side comparison with the higher end HDTV's to promote them would not be a good idea.

Vizio fills a legitimate gap in TV selection, and the hatred of it is irrational even at a stretch and is purely based on two things: 1)Wal-Mart sells them (and kills the competition on pricing), and 2)They're made in China.
Both things are totally irrelevant to why people hate on Vizio. For 9/10's of the population they're perfect. Folks like you that try to pretend to be videophiles probably find fault with all of Vizio's product line. The folks that have $4500 to dump on a 60" Pioneer plasma account for <.0001% (my guess) of the population. The rest find nothing wrong with a Vizio comparing the bang for the buck. They want a nice TV for a nice price and aren't going to even notice a black level that isnt as good, or anything else for that matter.

FTR, I do have a 42" Vizio plasma, and a 56" Samsung DLP. I prefer the Vizio in many instances. For $727 shipped from wal-mart.com, I love it.

Maybe my problem is that I don't compare bang for the buck, I just compare the bang. I am a college student, price is everything to me, but I just save up and buy what I want, not what I can afford at the time. I can guarantee that I am happier with my purchase by studying up on what I want and doing legit comparisons and just flat out saving, earning, buying what I really want.

I use a Sony 52 inch XBR5 in the living room & a 47 inch Vizio LCD in the bedroom. The Vizio will be moved to a spare bedroom in a year or two, when I get a 50 inch Panasonic Plasma for my bedroom. I find no faults with my Vizio for the price I paid, I'm just ready to give plasma a try.
