I get upwards of 34 mpg highway driving in my Nissan 350z, if I keep it around 55-60 m.p.h. That is 8 mpg's more than what my car is rated. And she is a heavy car for a 2-seater, coming in around 3,300 lbs.
There are so many different factors that can affect your mpg's though, so don't believe everything you read. It's funny the car companies are being demonized all over the place for producing "gas guzzling vehicles", yet it's us American consumers who are to blame for buying them in the first place. Enjoy your gas guzzling cars while they last. With the route this country is taking.....sooner or later we'll all be forced to drive SmartCars. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Slightly OT but has anyone used either of these sites for replacement cases:
http://www.tapeandmedia.com/detail.a...uct_id=BLU-RAY or http://www.sleevetown.com/blu-ray-hd-dvd-case.shtml |

Sadly I think the cover is most likely to be damaged before anybody gets a chance to transfer it to a better case.

Recent Price Increase: With the recent increase in the price of petroleum, the cost of manufacturing CD and DVD cases has increased markedly. The CD/DVD case manufacturers have raised their prices and unfortunately, we are having to pass these increases on to our customers. (8/1/2008) |

You know I was thinking they already shrunk the cases from DVD cases...why couldn't they shrink them again down to the size of a slightly bigger jewel case? And if they want to save on plastic, would putting a few pin head sized holes throughout the case coupled with the smaller case save as much if not more plastic than these crap-cases? Done properly you could save plastic while preserving the integrity of the case/artwork and the safety of the disc.

To me this is a bs way of recycling, if they want to really make an impact, I say go cardboard. I think that wall E the DVD did that and the there will be blood DVD. I would like to move over in that direction, the cardboard that is. This is just a way for them to make people feel better about the plastic case while at the same time removing the plastic where it needs to be to protect the disk. Other solutions; The shape of the cases themselves are too large for how big the disk is, you could remove a lot of plastic by making the case smaller and keep it just as safe! To me this screams no thought marketing ploy.

DVD cases are taller than they are wide because of the format of movie poster art. Home video has always sought to maintain the AR of the movie poster, even if they create alternate art for the VHS/DVD/Blu-Ray. I don't see this shape going away any time soon.

Not true. The only reason they are this shape and size is because of VHS tapes. Originally studios could have used a CD sized jewel case ,but decided against it because people would confuse it with a CD and not realize it is a movie, VHS tapes and to the same extent BETA tapes were pretty much the same shape, if not the same size. People were used to getting their movies in a rectangular case. Also the format of the art on almost all laserdisc releases was square, not the same shape as a movie poster.

Well, I've never seen those type of cases, physically. My copy of Quantum of Solace, like all the other copies in the store and all the other 007 titles there too, all seemed to come in the same casing - which is the usual BD casing. But, if I start noticing these type of cases, luckily the store I buy most of my Blu-rays sells empty cases (usually the better type - with the locking tab on the side and the embossed logo at the top) for like a buck, so I'm safe.

Law of unintended consequences: Since I won't use these Eco-friendly cases I will order standards and swap out the case. Since I can't trade a movie not originally in an Eco-friendly case to someone in one, I will be throwing all Eco-friendly cases away.
