Something to do with membership. Possibly a Costco deal? Last time I was there, there wasn't much available as far as HD players go, so with other wholesale groups arleady announcing support for Blu-ray, hmmm.... Given you've written in Chinese, it implies something possibly on a global scale... OR, an agressive competitve response to the the alleged $199 Toshiba player coming this fall.

He said a little hint, not give it all away!

So yes, it appears that the current rumor is $200 Blu-ray players from China at Walmart. It would certainly make things interesting (not to mention completely nullify Paramount's "cheaper players" comment).

Agreed - there are currently 99 Blu-ray titles with dates compared to HD DVD's 60 titles (not including re-issues of combo discs)

well, the way we continue to get our heads knocked over huge price spreads of the players, you had to see this coming. I think Paramount was really pounding on this $199 message, and so long as the player comes out under a different brand, the strategy won't de-value other Blu-ray stand-a-lone offerings. I'd be upset if they cut the price of PS3 any further, frankly. Sony should announce DTS MA firmware upgrade for the PS3 on the same date for maximum effect. It's gonna need it for all the Fox titles.

It's cool man - some of us appreciate what you do.
I know you basically post everything you hear and it's likely that 75% of that may never see the light due to things happening behind closed doors.
Hopefully what you have is big news and hopefully the deals are signed and you can tell us about it.

unless Warner Bros. has stepped down from the board of directors i just do not see that happening.
Thank you Joe. I've many times made a post pointing out that Warner is not only a BDA member, but in the top tier as a board member. I'm aware that they are a director on the other side as well, but still, I'd find it odd for them to defect completely. I think they've a patent stake and profit share in both formats. It's also true that they announced HD-DVD support first and BD support after that, but still before either one launched.

At a very minimum, regardless of if, when, and how this lands, you'll get a "Blu-Ribbon" for your creative coding... (and we appreciate that)

i feel awful now. i hid this news from you guys for a few days thinking it was FUD. i was at bestbuy and i was watching a baseball game on hdtv. a guy asked me if i needed help, and that turned into talking about the Cardinals, which turned into MLB 07 The Show vs. 2k7, which turned into ps3 vs. 360. basically the guy said he lked the 360 better, but prefered blu-ray to hd dvd. i asked him how blu-ray standalones had been selling and he confirmed blu-ray standalones were outselling hd dvd ones at that store and that software was not even close. paramount wasn't even mentioed, but he said wal-mart is going to go blu-ray exclusive he heard. i thought he didn't know what he was talking about. however, something is up with walmart. he might have heard big news for wally world and assumed exclusivness, i don't know, but i didn't want to post a rumor with all thats been gong on. anyways, i think we can all be convinced that something big is in the works with BD and Wal mart. after all they owe sony.

i also want to add that i agree with beatboy this will end the war. think of it like this. the bda comes out in the next 5 days and says big wal-mart news. paramount, who just got into its contract, says hey MS you didn't tell us we are going to get leved by the nations bigges retailer and with all the target rumors too, were out. so then its back to 7 out of 8 for blu-ray. universals contract is up in oct. they jump ship ASAP. game over.

I'm not ready to to be this optimistic yet although this is an interesting development to watch.

ive got my huge pinch of salt here with me guys, no offence, but until i see anything written im not getting excited about any rumours. Look at the wallyworld/hddvd/fud that sprang up all over the internet! No excitment here until its official, i dont think rumours should be started in this way, it just gives ammo to hdfud fans

walmarts hdtv selection was absoulte sh1t for a long time. seriosly they had vizio, ilo, eyefi. and a bunch of other no name crap hdtv makers. they were not appealing to the hdtv market so they came to sony asking for some nice brand name hdtvs that could be sold at low prices. sony helped them out big time by getting them good hdtvs. most are 720p. samsung joined too. all 4 walmarts that i shop at have had dramatic renvations done to their hdtv selection mostly due to sony and sammy.

I guess its KJACK who would know most about this and he has been somewhat quiet.
We do know that he has hinted chinese players are in the wind and if the BDA do bring a $199 BD player to the market at walmart, and target etc for exclusive distribution, then frankly that would be a nuke as big as the Paramount blunder.
AS LONG as its a fully spec machine with at least profile 1.1. (i cant see the average punter connecting there movie player up to the tinternet, so BD live isnt a must for a chinese player but profile 1.1 would be a must).

We shall wait and see, but this would be a big deal.
