Absolutely. Barlog has a blank cheque to make this one, and Sony should be seeing it as the second must-have PS5 game after Horizon 2. Looks to me like Sony want to get into the next gen sooner than they did with the PS4. Compare Killzone Shadowfall to Uncharted 4...

I hope God of War Ragnarok on PS5 is open world. They hinted at it in PS4's game, so why not?

Thats exactly what they said with Miles Mirales and Horizon. They both said "PlayStation Exclusive".
Well said, Steelmaker.

I still think Killzone Shadowfall looks damn good for a PS4 launch title.

Exactly. Open world increases replay value to explore.

It did indeed, but with each successive PS4 exclusive, game devs got to build on the technology, GoW 2018 being the pinnacle of that...

I would argue that with the graphical fidelity that GoW 2018 has, it pushed the PS4 to breaking point, thus the requirement of the tiresome hidden loading screens. The next game will have none of that. I don't buy for a second that if it is cross-gen it will be hampered by the shame shackles of the first game. Not with a title this important!

GOW most certainly is a gorgeous game but IMO the pinnacle of graphics on PS4 is Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted Lost Legacy, and The Last of Us Part 2. GOW to me is JUST behind those games. I also should mention Driveclub in the rain is still a stunner.

I haven't played Horizon 1 above scratching the surface, as my Pro crapped out in February of this year (long story...) so going on the other titles, i would state that GoW 2018 beats out the competition based on:

Flawless texture work. One. Hundred. Percent. Incredible.
Environments are stunning.
Character geometry is the best i've seen on the Pro. It's like getting a preview of the PS5!

That's my take on it. Shalom!

I hated the ending of Killzone SF but other than that, I really enjoyed the game. It was one of the few launch PS4 games that really showed off what the system could do. Plus it was one of the very few games that made proper use of the glide pad and built in speaker. I just wish it ran at 60fps.

I honestly don't think that there was anywhere for GG to take the Killzone narrative after Shadowfall, they had basically ran the franchise into the ground with all story ideas, unless they were going to introduce an all-new antagonist instead of the Helghan/Vektan conflict. And we got Horizon as a new IP instead. Great stuff!

I dont know about that. Didn't Killzone Mercenary come out on Vita after Shadowfall? It was praised very highly, some even saying it was the best one in the series. I never got to play it as I didn't own a Vita.

Edit: I looked it up. Mercenary came out 2 months prior to Shadowfall.

PS4 can handle open world as with Days Gone which has excellent detail in the textures up close for an open world game, but it's true that the PS4 struggles to render those details in that game when the character is moving faster on a motorcycle. The frame rate took a major hit in that game.

With Horizon 1, I didn't experience any slow down that I noticed and that game has impressive visuals too.

For God of War 1, I imagine they may have wanted to try for open world, but for whatever reason, chose the set up they did with the lake hub to reach the different sections.

But yeah, for this new game, hopefully the game will offer a more open game world with the fact the PS5 can crank out major GBs of data in a split second.

I don't see how they could have done Realm Traversal without the pivotal Realm Room, unless there was some kind of (admit it, naff!) Power Shaft that actually connected each realm to Midgard. The main thing i was suggesting (and i'm sure it has an official gaming term) is the points in the game where Kratos shimmies through limited space to allow the background loading of the next section. First time i recall seeing it was in the Uncharted series...

I actually hope they stick with a hub type system. I’m pretty fatigued on open world games and will already have played Horizon 2 next year before this is out (if it doesn’t get delayed). I tend to get burnt out if I do more then one big open world game a year anymore. I’d deal with these two though as they’re sequels to my two favorite games from this generation so far!

Jim Ryan's response to being asked about God War being a PS5 exclusive "Sorry. I've got nothing to say about that today."

Cross-gen confirmed

They would be stupid to not release it on PS4. The PS4 isn’t going Anywhere any time soon.

2022 F THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It will get delayed to 2023 cause they are lazy. Sony should fire everyone there. And they continue to advertise this as a lunch title. MS is killing them at every corner. Doesn’t matter if PS5 is selling at record numbers they have 2 exclusives available. I’ll wait for it when it’s on sale. I refuse to support lazy studios and I usually buy most games day one.
