Default Faroudja vs PS3 upconvert?

I have always had my PS3 set to do the upconverting, but I'm wondering what is best? Honestly, I barely watch any Standard Definition DVD's anymore, but I do have a HTPC which has quite a bit of standard def cartoons for our daughter. So, should I use the Denon's Faroudja processing?...and then would it be doubled when watching a S-DVD through the playstation? What are you using?

I let my PS3 upconvert. Never been overly impressed with the result of Faroudji

Your Panasonic TV should do a better job than the PS3 & Faroudja. My Vizio does a better job than my Faroudja( receiver ). Unless your using a high end video processor( Anchor Bay VRS, Silicon Optix HQV Realta or Faroudja's latest etc. ), your fixed pixel TV will handle the video processing/upscaling the best.
You can use the HQV benchmark disc to test your TV video performance against the PS3: http://www.hqv.com/benchmark.cfm
My 47" 1080p Vizio outscored the PS3 & Faroudja( receiver ) on the HQV benchmark test. As a result, I have the receiver video processing set to off/pass thru.

Let your HTPC do the processing

If I remember correctly, none of Faroudja's processors up-converted to 1080p. The company dropped all but 2 SKU's when Meridian bought them. In their time, Faroudja's processing was excellent. Some of the best out there, especially for CRT Projectors but as technology advanced into 1080p, there wasn't much for Faroudja to do anymore but allow a concentrated effort on one projo, one processor, with Meridian.

1080p allowed easy, affordable resolution that until then, could only be closely reached by Faroudja when running line doubled or tripled 480i, p, 1080i and 720p. By the time 1080p was rearing it's head, there were other processors doing close to Faroudja performance for less cash.

Realistically, the growth in resolution killed the need for expensive processors. BUT... make no mistake - processing is still the name of the game. It's what separates a $1000.00 LCD data projector and a $35,000.00 DLP or LCOS. Processing gives you deeper blacks, detail, edge smoothness etc.
