Personally, I feel the 4Ks are a much more rewarding presentation than any previous home video release.

Also, despite Jackson's statement, I don't think the LOTR films look all that similar to The Hobbit series photographically - at least not any more than before as intentionally done when they made The Hobbit. The only real conformity in LOTR relative to the Hobbit are in the visual effects being composited more convincingly between the different element layers.
So basically he meant the 4K and HDR making them seem less further apart in time.

On another note concerning that video. I was worried about Jacksons health . His breathing seemed rather laboured.

First time I will say this: first time IMO that a DNR worked for me on a 4K release.

Again, thank you for the caps.

Not to mention how the eBay dude got ahold of that many to begin with. My God.
Best Buy should've limit how many one person could buy.

Yeah, I absolutely love my 65" OLED for the picture, but if I'm being perfectly honest, I have found that it's not quite my ideal setup and when I end up moving next year, I'm going back to a projector for films. Going from a projector, especially a setup like mine where scope films are the larger, wider image, watching those films on a TV, even a big-screen one, just isn't quite the same.

I mean, I think that's the case, but that's just my interpretation of what he was intending aligned with what I'm seeing.

In ROTK TH, the shot of Aragorn first seeing the spirit of the King of the Dead in the pathway had a less distinct presence of his spirit, but was more distinct in the EE. Now the TH also has the more distinct presence of the King of the Dead, too
Obvious answer is obvious but I'm guessing they restored one version of every shot that's common to both cuts and just tracked it into the theatrical edit where appropriate.

The screencaps showing VFX shots are alleviating my concerns. They’re not as good as the non-VFX 35mm shots, but neither are they bad. I was expecting much worse.

Oh, definitely. The only reason MT was missing in TTT TH was because some NL execs thought it was Helm's Deep in the background (per Jackson's EE commentary), which they felt would carry over to audiences being confused about the geography relationships of the characters. That concession isn't needed anymore.

I know it's wishful thinking, but I'm not a fan of all these "fixes" to the theatrical cuts, minor as they may be. They should've left those alone and put any modifications in the extended cuts.

It’s probably down to how my TV interprets the different HDR settings, but for right now I’m enjoying the HDR10 more.

Thats a shame, I find the Dolby vision does a spectacular job. Better depth, contrast, etc.

Try this, go into your player settings and change the HDR Display setting from OLED to
Basic Luminence LCD. That will take it down to 500 nits. Try the first 30 min again. This what I do on all DV discs, fool the display

This is only for Dolby vision. Put it back to OLED for HDR10.

My setup is :

Sony 65 A9G
Panasonic UB9000

I feel this 4k LOTR version is the best I have ever seen it look-Spectacular I say.
No one should hesitate to pick this up

I think losing that camera wobble when the sword hits it is actually a real shame. That was a fun little detail and just gave that brief moment something extra.

VHS, DVD FS, DVD WS, DVD Extended, BD, BD Extended,4K UHD Extended.

I didn't have the VHS but did have VCDs for the LOTR trilogy (official releases in Asia, which I left behind when we migrated).

Apart from that, I've got the same collection (albeit the theatrical cut DVDs are boxed up somewhere after ripping to my media server).

I've yet to receive the 4K Blu-rays, though. Tracking shows delivery for next Monday. Amazon Prime 2-Day shipping failed majorly this time. Wish I'd just ordered from Best Buy.

Not the same map shot above, but I'm a little surprised Jackson didn't change the mark of the hidden door on the map of Erebor in LOTR to match Hobbit.

I’ve been a bit concerned about him since shortly after BotFA came out. He didn’t seem quite the same after that. I think The Hobbit took a lot out of him. I hope he’s doing well.
