do we really want to see old man Indy?...we already got old Wolverine, old Rambo and old Rocky...Indiana Jones is about globetrotting adventures, fighting Nazi's etc...Indiana Jones contemplating his mortality is taking away what made the other movies great

Why does the age of one character/actor have to exactly reflect the other?

And am I the only one genuinely up for one last adventure? I have a huge soft spot for the original trilogy and largely enjoyed KOTCS, so the return of Indy feels like the return of an old friend. In KOTCS or Force Awakens for instance I don't see an old Harrison Ford, I still just see Indiana Jones/Han Solo, so his age doesn't bother me one bit for Indy 5.

I always felt that Indy was one of those movie character who would never retire, if there was an artefact or mystery out there that needed to be found/solved then nothing would hold him back. Plus there simply aren't enough of these escapist globe-trotting adventure films nowadays amongst all the comic book affair.

The only doubt I have is the lack of Spielberg, but I'm open to Mangold. Maybe a new director will breath life into the franchise again.

I will say that if they are going to do this, no matter how ill-advised, and Spielberg doesn't want to do it, Mangold is a just about the best choice I could think of. His workmanlike style if very similar to Spielberg's and he has a great handle on good old-fashioned storytelling.

because the Indy movies have always been about action/adventure...a 78 year old Indy won't be able to do the things he has in the past movies making it less Indy and more Old Man story

Han Solo was not as much of a physical role...it was about him piloting the Millenium Falcon and pew pew

Maybe Philip Kaufmann is the real EVP here regarding Raiders of the Lost Ark. More important than Lucas probably.

If he really wanted to do it he would have. Since he's not it's probably for the best.

Edit: or what cyberpunk central said.

Or.... don’t make the movie? No one was really asking for another Indy and there’s only so much you can do with the franchise, unlike Marvel or Star Wars.

Well as I said, Mangold may be able to breath some life back into the series. It's just a shame there isn't a continuity if director running throughout all the films, so stylistically it may jar with the previous four.

Having said that, I do think Mangold is one of the few directors who could take over from Spielberg. It all depends on what direction the film takes.

The story goes . . .

Lucas was very worried his Star Wars was going to be a flop. So he flew to Hawaii to get away from the public, before the movie opened, and to be with his good friend Steven Spielberg who told him, it will be a great success. While in Hawaii, the two of them conceived Raiders Of The Lost Ark.

Spielberg couldn't even make one good sequel to Jurassic Park.

So the title card behind Kathy Kennedy at the presentation just read simply 'Indiana Jones'.

Are they going to go the Rocky Balboa / Jason Bourne route and simply just title the movie after the character, as like a summation of the series? I kind of like that idea actually.

All franchises are doing it this way now.

Close enough.

Before the Hawaii trip, Lucas had actually already conceived the premise for Raiders Of The Lost Ark and potential sequel films, that he planned to name Raiders this and Raiders that and so on. He had also locked down the time era of the 1930s. Spielberg came with his own wishlist, namely his desire to direct a James Bond film starring Sean Connery. Well, he eventually got Connery alright.

I'm sorry, I cannot take anyone seriously who uses the term "daddy movie".

Dad movie, maybe, but any adult using the word daddy evokes images quite different from the one you're trying to project.

I think HF will be 80 when this hits the theater. Is he supposed to actually be the main character?
