Whoa!!!! Thanks so much for posting this. I have never even heard of this Wayne film. I loved Donna Reed as a kid watching reruns of her show in the 1980s...plus her performance in Its A Wonderful Life is classic.

Anyway, I had no idea Wayne and Reed ever worked together. I would love to see this on Blu!

Trouble Along The Way is really an enjoyable film, that I just happened to watch a couple of weeks ago. I wish Warner Archive would release more of JW's early 1950 films onto Bluray, such as Operation Pacific, Big Jim McLain, and Trouble Along The Way.

And just a minor note...Trouble Along The Way was not the first time Wayne and Reed were in a film together. They both starred in John Ford's "They Were Expendable" in 1945.

That’s another one for the list/collection. I recently bought They Were Expendable off EBay on Blu-ray (the U.K HMV version) so I’ll be watching that when I’m off work. And Cahill on Blu-ray finally arrived yesterday from America. So phew it wasn’t lost on the way over The Pond to The U.K.

I know what I’ll be doing tomorrow.

Edit:- Well this is strange, doesn’t appear that Trouble along the way was ever released on dvd in the u.k. That’s frustrating. There is an Italian copy available on Amazon U.K. so it looks like that is my only option unless I go digital. But I’m not keen on buying digital movies.

OK, so it's not Bluray (again), but it is John Wayne. Turner Classic Movies is showing "The Conqueror" on Monday, February 1 at 10:45 PM Mountain time. I've never seen it so I'll be setting my PVR.

Thanks for the heads up! Never seen this movie before. From just different things I have briefly read on it, doesn’t sound honestly very promising. But hey... it’s free through TCM and it’s a Wayne movie, so I’m giving it a shot.

We used to have TCM on free to air but then it changed over to Sky movies in the U.K which is a subscription service. I’ve have Nowtv which is a streaming version of Sky but TCM isn’t on there. Shame as I’d have liked to watch it.

On another note I watched Cahill and really liked it better than Chisum I though. Definitely a 4 out of 5 star watch. Just in the middle of They Were Expendable on Blu-ray.

Glad you enjoyed Cahill! I’ve watched I believe 60 Wayne movies in the past month or so... so they are kinda mixing together for me right now. But I do recall liking Cahill also more than Chisum.

It’s been something like 2 years since I watched They Were Expendable. That’s where I next need to go in my collection: Duke’s war movies.

I mostly own Duke westerns and war movies. I really need to check out his other types of movies. I think circus world is the only different one I have.

I’m going to finish off They Were Expendable on Blu-ray today. Then I’ll get into Hatari,The High and the Mighty and Island in the Sky all on DVD though. Then I’ll be all caught up and I’ll need to purchase some more! Probably The Quiet Man to start off with.

Edit;- Finished They Were Expendable yesterday and that is another incredible film that I’m so glad I have in my collection. That’s definitely one of his best. Ordered The Quiet Man today on Amazon Prime. Not in stock till the 28th Feb though. I’ve got three others to watch before then so they should keep me going.

Received The Quiet Man today by Masters of Cinema. It’s got a new transfer,a booklet and a couple of extras. Not quite as good as the American release but at £10.99 it’s a bargain. It still sealed as I haven’t had a chance to check it out yet.

Looking forward to this one.

Paramount needs to hurry up and release the Shootist on Blu-ray.

Yeah, I'd buy that in a second. Part of me things that could be with Criterion, but that always seems to be what I feel is the case with a lot of the classic Paramount titles and they end up not being with them.

If it's 'still sealed', and you haven't had a chance to 'check it out yet', why do you state that it's 'not quite as good as the American release'?

Just trying to understand your thought process.

Sorry I meant about the bonus features as there’s more on The Olive Signature Edition Blu-ray than the Brit one. Such as a commentary and a few more featurettes.

I FINALLY got my “ holy grail” of Wayne Blu-rays today. It’s OOP. No where online at all, not even eBay.

Just glad to add it to the collection.

Wow, I’d love to have that one in my collection but like you say it’s OOP and very hard to get. It’s rarer than rocking horse s8*t! That’s why I settled for The masters of cinema u.k release. Well I didn’t have much choice. Pleased for you.

I just got Rio Lobo on Blu-ray for £2.99 from HMV. They were having a 50% off flash sale.
By the way Hellfighters is a hell of a film aswell. Watched it on line and loved it.

Glad you picked up Rio Lobo! It’s a movie I need to revisit, but I remember liking it.

Hellfighters I haven’t seen in 2 years. I remember thinking it was decent...I need to give it another watch soon.

In other news, The Conquerer withJohn Wayne in it was on TCM a couple of days ago. Wow... absolutely terrible. LOL it’s so bad it’s almost necessary to experience at least once.

I was so pleased when I saw it for that price. Absolute bargain. Yeah check out Hellfighters again, I thought it was terrific. It was strange seeing John Wayne in something other than a western or a military film and it made a nice change. Really enjoyed it. Not so sure about The Conquerer. I’m aiming to buy Hellfighters, Fort Apache and She wore a yellow ribbon next.
