USE that 20gb of extra storage and the higher bandwidth to establish BD as the next format for the masses.

Exactly! I get sick of reading that there is "no difference" on the pq between HD-DUD and blu-ray on The Departed/Blood Diamond/300 etc... DUH, it's because it's the same goddamn encode!

If Warner is letting blu-ray FINALLY strut it's stuff with RETURN TO HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, though it may seem like this is an insignificant title right now, going forward into the future this could be a huge step...

Hmmm. Interesting considering it should have been PiPped by the crowd over there.

Maybe they don't realize that HD DVD's spec makes seamless branching very difficult?

Well I see from your link that paidgeek spoiled all the fun for us by posting over there on AVMS.
Doesn’t he put credence into anything the Micro$oft employees say ?

I shall post a confirmation on the main Insider’s Thread here since it appears that everyone and his uncle knows about it now.

All of this on the heels of Nickerson's departure from WB. I wonder what's cooking

Josh, I would be careful what I said about that on a public forum. WB have put a gag order on most people who know what happened.

No time like the present Mr BDA.
Why is this being glossed over??? This is major (bad) news, especially if WM and other major chains will be carrying them.

I must admit, my confidence in the chances of BR wining this war went from 95% two weeks ago to about 50% this week. The BDA better have some major announcements VERY soon. It was one thing when the BDA had nearly all the studios in their pocket, it made it much easier to justify spending so much more for the hardware. But, with HD-DVD having closer to half of the studio support (not to mention more releases) and MUCH lower hardware pricing, I fear things could get ugly during the coming holiday season without some major change from the BDA.

Insiders, what say you?

Would be great news if its true!
The thinking within WB is still that it is more economically sound to stick with their current course, is what I hear.

The only thing that is going to change is that they will no longer favour HD DVD with timed exclusives a la Matrix, or HD exclusives a la 300.

The last title to feature IME on HD DVD and none on Blu-ray is looking to be Batman Begins, even that could change soon though.

This new lady is really good, no favouritism towards either format it seems.

When Fox release Titanic in Region B, can you advise them to PLEASE make it all region coding as they will sell a freakin' tonne of it.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

And while you're at it ask them if they can bring the James Bond Collection to Region A

Lol, Gary maybe you should be a film editor ?

It is accurate that ATU was developed by Revolution rather than Sony Pictures.
In the end, though, I think all parties are satisfied with the final product.
Oh that's good. As long as everyone's happy

I know from personal experience how painful it is to live with a badly compromised work.

Satisified enough to release it on Blu-ray in only the theatrical form?

That's the modern day test of satisfaction.

Indeedy. Now film makers can have their cake and eat it. Which is great of course.

Do Fox and Paramount have to be on the same page, before this gets released anywhere in the world? I mean do they both have to give thier approval?

Well, I think Fox are the production company so they will have the final say on who gets to release this at what time. Afaik Paramount only have the US/Canada theatrical/HV distribution rights so whether they are allowed to release it or not depends on what Fox want to do.

The BDA policy is that catalogue titles are released all region.

The split territory controls are only supposed to be used for new releases to protect theatrical windows.

Ask the HD DVD fans in Europe how they are enjoying Mr. Bean on HD DVD. What, no announcement? I wonder why?

That is what happens without region coding. And that is supposed to be a positive?

I have the same feeling, but will ride this out till the end (either way).
Even if this player is a piece of crap, they will still sell, and so will their movies.

Are we (Blu) going to see our "Cheap" chinese player this year?

I haven't forgotten about it - I am getting 16 Blocks from there so I can have it with English 5.1 PCM.
