Default Why I hate Sony

Where does all this stem from?
I'll tell you why I hate Sony. I bought a Sony HDR-SR1 camcorder, and a Sony BWU-100A blu-ray disk writer. The software that comes with the disk burner won't read the output files from the camcorder, and Sony belligerently refuses to do anything about it. I've called them, begged, yelled, etc., all to no avail. They simply say they're not going to do this, because its a proprietary format. Translation: I've spent $2000 for nothing, because the camcorder fills up and I can't use it any more, and the blu-ray disk writer is useless to me unless I can use it to produce disks of the video footage I've made with the camcorder.

Don't buy the HDR-SR1!!! Its completely useless. Oh, and if you copy the files from it to your computer hard drive for storage, and then try to copy them back to the camcorder, it won't let you, unless the files are less than 2 gigabytes, which corresponds to about 15 minutes of footage. So if you video tape a meeting for an hour, you have to break up that file on your PC into 15-minute chunks, and I'm not exaggerating when I say that this literally takes all day! Oh, and did I mention that the Cyberlink software installs .NET 1.2 on your machine, and completely screws things up? I put it on my computer at work, and nothing else worked any more. Outlook didn't work, Visual Studio didn't work, etc.

I'll NEVER buy from Sony ever again! It would be one thing if this was an over site that they were willing to address, but to just sit there with arms folded telling me I'm on my own, that's inexcusable.

Roxio's software doesn't work with the *.m2ts files either (despite what they claim - they said their trial version doesn't work with it, but the non-trial version of Easy Media Creator 9 does). Well, it doesn't! You get an "Error building graph" message, and I get that both on my old computer at home, and on my brand new out of the box HP computer at work with top-of-the line everything on it (disk space, memory, video card, etc). Elecard software managed to convert it to an mpeg file, but the quality was poor. Then I managed to convert it to some other format where the video looked pretty good, but there was no sound. Then I got fairly good looking video & the sound at least was there, but when the person in the video moved, it was clear that only every few frames were actually being saved by the Elecard software. A lot of these software packages are like 1/2 a gig, which takes a long time to download and install one version after another after another. The Cyberlink people act like they're on drugs. They can't speak English, they have me download the wrong versions of stuff, they give me the wrong CD keys, etc., etc., etc. I have 22 emails from them! And its not that I'm some computer illiterate moron; I have a BS on Physics, and an MS in Computer Science!

Its just been a nightmare from day one!
