I dont undrestand why so many people just like to bash sony its really starting to piss the hell out of me. they announce a new ps3 the cheapest one yet with 40gb wifi hdmi 2x usb blu-ray but you cant play ps2 games. Come on this is just like the hd dvd combo disc who buys a hd movie to watch standerd dvd. They say do you think the new 40gb ps3 will sell not really sure cant play ps2 games.

Sony's problem is that they've introduced a lot of models and changes. It's confusing to many, because it's come in such a short time.

From a marketing perspective, Sony is on the bottom with M-soft and Nintendo being miles ahead.

Sure, those of us who have tasted the PS3 for games and movies know it was a great investment, but the mass market doesn't.

From a PR perspective, their bungles have rippled through the media. It's went from one or two issues to a common perception that PS3 is a joke.

To fix this they will need better communication, resolution of this game package and pricing crap, and a slew of above-decent to upper-level titles.

Looking at the future, I think in 2008 we "could" see PS3 start to pull it out. If HOME comes out without many errors and is done right, that will be a huge PR blitz. Sony absolutely must delay this release until it's flawless. Getting it done right, rather than sooner, will have serious benefits.

They also have a better lineup of games in 2008 and studios are revving up their BLU releases.

If things are done right, the next few months are just the calm before the PS3/BLU/Sony storm.

Oh, and I also never understood the COMBO disc for HD DVD. Whomever thought that one up should be fired. What's next? Giving me the VHS tape of the movies I buy too?

What amazes me is that these people side with M$. I mean holy crap it is MICROSOFT!!! One of the worst companies I can think of not to mention it is the epitome of the evil corporate monster. They have been releasing half ass versions of Windows for I do not know how long and it seems everything new they make, aka the Zune, have but one purpose. They are meant to mess up the market and cause a split that really does not aid anything. They have lost billions since they entered the console market and continue to lose, why in the hell are they still in it. At least Sony turns a profit on its consoles before the next one hits the market. If anything Sony is the one company that does not really deserve all this hate, Only if they could get their own game and tech channel like M$ has, aka G4, maybe the hate would die down some.

It's just the 'in thing' right now to hate on the PS3.

I have friends over. We play on the PS3 all the time. They actually bash on the PS3 and go on about how the 360 or Wii is better _while_ unable to put the controller down.

That's how bad it is. They can actually be having a total blast playing games on my PS3, and they still can not stop regurgitating the FUD even in the middle of that. Sometimes even spewing FUD which contradicts what's on the very screen in front of them. It's incredible to watch!

It's really disturbing how much control the media perception has over people. And even more disturbing that Microsoft seems to have rather direct influence over the media.

I mean... look at game reviews, for an example. As far as I can tell, any game that's released on the PS3 gets an automatic -2.0 just for being on the PS3. Lair deserves a 7.0, gets a 5.0. Heavenly Sword deserves a 9.0, gets a 7.0. Why the low score for Heavenly Sword? Because it's too short. Halo 3 is just as short. Halo's score? Perfect 10.0. Yeah. No bias there at all.

No matter how good Metal Gear Solid 4 is, they aren't going to score it above an 8.0. Just you watch.

Reason 1: Higher price/newer tech equates to higher standards and harsher criticism.

Reason 2: Buyer's remorse. If you bought the other, cheaper, system, it is much easier to amplify the negative and thus accentuate the "positive" action of having purchased the "cheap(er) and b_tter" system so long as you aren't part of the 3-year billion dollar recycling program.

Reason 3: The simple phenomenon of software development always being 12 months (minimum) behind in terms of development with the release of newer, more advanced hardware. See the reviews for the launch of the PS2. Now go look at total units sold to date for hardware and software and see where it stands, sales-wise, against its generational competition.

Reason 4: Newer tech is a risky investment due to expense. Sure the BR player plays outstanding BR movies, but it also was included for storage reasons to future-proof the console. See reasons 3, 2 or 1 as to why it is easy to bash the inclusion of the BR player prior to Q2 2008. EVEN THOUGH IT IS THE BEST VALUE ON THE MARKET AND SONY IS TAKING A LOSS per unit.

Reason 5: Living up to the standards set (and still being set) by the PS2.

Every forum I go to besides this one seems to hate the PS3. All the discusions are arguments about wether the PS3 or Wii is better. No one will even acknowledge the PS3 has any redeemable features, let alone admitting that it is technologically superior. No one even cares that the PS3 has a Blu-ray player in it, and many dont even know what Blu-ray is. Most of my friends laughed at me when I bought my PS3 and when they finally came over to check it out they were surprised at how good it was. So why all the PS3 hate?

If I had to guess I would say it's because the PS3 gets the best exclusives and they blame Sony for not allowing them to get the best games on their bargain, stripped down consoles.
My nephew has a Wii and the graphics on it are no where near that of the first Xbox. The control scheme, at least on the games I played, is inconsistent and downright sloppy. My nephew and I both know how to box and the mentally challenged middle school kid from down the street can win at the boxing game by just shaking the controllers like he's having a grand mal seizure.

got me, i had one and it broke so i got the s300. im getting the 40gb version when it comes out and i cant wait! im trying to get others to buy them too and im sure ill be buying ps3 games now over 360. im sick of the points system or gamer tag points or whatever, i just want to play some games on a much better machine.
