Default What Blu-ray Player Are You Going To Buy?

What BD player do you plan on purchasing at this point? This assumes that you had to purchase based on what we know now, without waiting for first consumer reports etc.

Feel free to discuss how you came to your decision.

I'm going to be a lamer and say: I honestly don't know.

The PS3 is the safety valve for me, as a gamer. A part of me is strongly tempted to play the card of "Use the game consoles as stop gaps until the format war is over."

Yeah, I'm probably just kidding myself at this point.

I won't know until these players are out and I start seeing a lot of reviews and impressions in addition to the legwork and personal demoing that I'm going to be doing.

I just need more info about all of these players, in general.

If you can, add a "Don't know" choice to the poll.

Perfectly valid feelings, and I agree. I saw this response coming, which is why I said "This assumes that you had to purchase based on what we know now, without waiting for first consumer reports etc"

Based on your response, I would say the PS3 would be your choice based solely on what we know now.

If I added "Don't know", we would probably get 90% of votes in that category! (including me)!

Yeah i'm going to go with the Pioneer Elite simply because I know the audio and video quality will be great and pioneer has a long history of making very very good dvd players so i figure they can probably handle making a good blu-ray player.

Fair enough. I voted PS3 under that context.

Very true.

You will be paying for that reputation obviously, but it will probably be worth it.

I voted for the Sony, Panasonic, and Pioneer. Was I allowed to pick more than one? Those are the three I am most interested in. I'm leaning heavily towards the Panny or Pio though.

I'll be getting a PS3 in November and hopefully by mid-December I'll have half a dozen BD players to choose from. They are all on my radar atm, even the Sammy.

Yes, I did allow for multiple choices, but in hindsight, that may not have been a great idea.

Anyway, those are my top 3 right now too.

I am leaning towards the Sony since 1) it is being made by Pioneer 2) It is cheaper than the others which is good since we are still dealing with first gen players.

At this point I plan on picking up the Panasonic and the PS3. The Sony and Pioneer are certainly being considered though. I'll make my final decision when I can actually see these players in person.

Can anyone link me to concrete information that states that the Sony is being manufactured by Pioneer or is it simply a rumor?

I believe it was Stacy Spears who said this on AVS.

Edit: so no, this information is not "concrete".

Currently have a Samsung that I managed to get a great deal on at Magnolia, but I still have my eye on that Panny.
