I know this will be a crazy, unpopular, out-there opinion but I'll just go ahead and say it:

I'd love me a B2G1 sale right about now.

Maybe your Target still has a decent selection of physical media... or did you mean an online sale?

Definitely online sale. In-store selection is a joke.

Don’t you dare say that! We are about to carry the Sean Connery classic Finding Forrester! A ton of copies in the back! Not a joke!

Sarcasm aside, the in-store selection of movies at any of the big-box retailers is awful now. Online is where the long tail is now, and will be - at least until physical media sales go completely south.

Disc sells transitioned predominately to etail over a decade ago, for the vastly better selection, inventory, and lower prices. It's just taken this long for the big box retailers to fully adapt. The sky isn't falling yet, it just looks that way if you don't see the bigger picture.

I often use Brickseek to check Target inventory. For years, even a week ago when I checked a few things, it always showed prices along with in/out of stock status. For the last couple days it hasn't shown any prices.

I searched around and couldn't find any discussions of this. Is Brickseek temporarily broken for prices or did Target change the interface (API) so that it's impossible to see in-store prices any more? (I fear the latter)

I hadn't noticed it being an issue, but not seeing prices now.

For the time I'll assume it's a temp glitch. Unfortunately I'm sure anyone here would know if the IT folks changed something internally to make it nonfunctional. Probably just going to have to recheck it intermittently over the next few days to see if it's permanent.

Since Brickseek isn't something sanctioned by the stores, I'm guessing even if you could get ahold of an IT person I doubt they'd actually tell you much

Brickseek and the other inventory website dccoapps.com/target I've used had gotten so unreliable I rarely use it for Target these days so I'm not sure I would have noticed too many details though

Sure, I've known the market had moved largely to online retailers/resellers some time ago. The pandemic just hastened the process, or at least made it more glaringly obvious. The remodeling at stores like Target and Best Buy were already well underway before Covid-19, anyways.

I know the sky isn't falling, and it probably never will, or at least not for another good 5-10 years. There are too many folks out there still willing to buy physical media for companies to bail on it entirely, though I do think we're starting to see studios no longer offer physical media on more and more shows, as those become the hook to lure subscribers to their streaming services.

What I do fear will start to happen - if not already - are slow but steady price increases by publishers to "test" customer price points. I expect more publishers to unpack UHD discs from blurays, and price UHD releases significantly higher. Newer bluray releases will probably see similar increases. As the market caters to a more niche crowd, and one with more disposable income, it's the natural course.

Ironically, if prices escalate to a certain point, you might see more physical media show up again at retailers, which then again may see them as a profitable item to stock. Until then, it makes sense to move these online to cut costs, and maximize revenue on low-return, high shelf-space items.

I'm not complaining. I much prefer online for buying media. It's easier.

There's a new 15% off Circle discount for The Courier. Expires June 14.

I thought it had something to do with Target and them no longer wanting us seeing how and when we go after the cheapest possible unit. Maybe Target knows someone over there and had them debug it or something, but it's unlikely that their API broke anything itself. I starting questioning brickseek when they dropped all the 4k exclusives from the app.

Like you, I saw that as well, but unlike you, I was too selfish to come share the news with everybody
Saw this one in the theater and quite enjoyed it and while I don't often buy during release week these days, I may go for it

I've heard good things too. I may wait a bit closer to June 14 to see if the price goes down at all. My store had plenty of copies when I went this morning.

Fortunately the prices came back on Brickseek for Target a day after I posted. However, I do worry they will get rid of it soon. Seeing the prices is the only way I can tell which stores have stuff on clearance. I don't know what I'd do without that (probably give up).
