True. And not because Star Trek is the best film ever made. It's not. It's not even as good as Star Trek II or VI, and it's still better than any Star Wars film, except Empire.

Excellent Film count:
Star Wars: 2 (I would argue 1, but I'm feeling generous )
Star Trek: 3 (at the VERY least, II, VI and XI are great films, though I could easily be swayed towards III and IV)

The number of great films is the criteria I would use, but for arguments sake:

Terrible Film count:
Star Wars: 4 (Eps I, II, III, CW)
Star Trek: 3 (V, VII, VIII, even though people LOVE First Contact, they are crazy IMO, so feel free to exchange I, IX or X)

Return of the Jedi, The Motion Picture, Search For Spock, Voyage Home, Insurrection and Nemesis, are passable I think. Watchable, but not great. That's the scoreboard as I see it. If we go by # of good films, Star Trek has it NAILED. If you need to include bad films in your judgments it becomes hazy, but still tipped in Trek favor.

Also, at it's best Star Trek has something to say about humanity. At Star Wars' best, we are all really entertained, but there's nothing relevant about it. (I take that back. The politics in the middle of Episode I's godawful dogsh*t were relevant, but everyone complained about the "boring parts", so that was chucked in II and III, leaving only pure dogsh*t.)

I also enjoy Star Trek more as I get older (the good films anyway) and Star Wars faaaaar less as I get older.

That's how I see it.
