and here we go... i need to see this on capsaholic.

If they've got better encoding or a better representation of the master I'm gonna grab single part 1. Sounds promising!

Very interesting info. THank you. Either way, I will be getting the steelbook version of this even though I already have the Shout set. Is it true that parts 5-8 are the same discs as the tin set?

I didn't pay attention to any zooms. I'm sure they're still there. I wish dvdbeaver or caps-a-holic would do a vs match soon. I can't take screenshots and I'd love to see how they compare in stills. But a big difference in the experiences are depth of reality. The shot of Alice in the canoe at the end. You can almost smell camp. Full expanse of the lake is felt and the shot looks suitable for framing on Paramount's release. The shame is, my first experience with it, was on a backlit lcd TV. I was thinking I was going nuts...there's no way Friday the 13th 1-4 look better on my friend's TV! My eyesight is deceiving me!

I still haven't had the chance to play pt 5-8. Despite being from older 2k origins, if they put those transfers through this same mystery pizazz process. You know, because they're charging more. Maybe those look better too? Probably not, because I'm expecting maybe now.

Now that's definitely something that got my attention, at least to say. Yep, we really do need caps on the line. You know, like yesterday.

Whimsical and nonsensical, I know. But yeah. Not your home equipment doing this. There is no such thing, of course. Something in the processing before pressing the 1080p disc. A few are blessed with this...whatever it is. Deeper darks, better skintones & particulars and greater visual depth than expected in a 1080p disc. And always priced right with 4k discs prices. NOT as nice as a real 4k disc. I'm still praying for Friday the 13th in 4k with dolby vision! Paramount's new standard blu rays are steps closer to that.

Can't see myself buying these films again. I mean, I have the first 8 movies. FvJ and the remake on the original releases..... I have the digital of the first 8 movies, and now the the Scream set. At some point enough is enough.

Not everything has to be "the best release."

I have to agree 100% with both counts. Touché.

We have caps up comparing to Scream Factory, I am posting here until this inevitably gets deleted:

1) Jason Voorhees, and his mom, both disagree in this case, and wanna discuss with you at Camp Blood tonight....

2) Admit it, Paramount's likely not done with your wallet on this series. I can almost SMELL the hdr in the works, for the upcoming 4k uhd's of the first four films, once they've sold enough of these $50 8-packs on standard blu ray...You'll cave in, and you'll peel.....

I have the Scream set. I don't care what minor, incremental improvement the Paramount set might have. Until UHDs come along (in a collection, not singles), I'm done.

I don't see too much of a difference, on the kindly-supplied and much-welcome caps, other than more information at the top and bottom of the screen on the Paramount disc, and a terse reminder that the Paramount disc unfortunately only has the 5.1 audio.....I'll check it out in motion on my Oppo, and see if I notice much of a difference on the fly....

Thanks. I'm not seeing any significant difference between them.

Thank you for the pt 1 screenshot comparisons, rbarb! Here's to hoping someone will post some for 2, 3 & 4 soon. Totally wasn't expecting them to look that identical! Disappointing really. In motion and at full size, there is a far more noticeable difference between them. Enough that, I don't understand how the screenshots could possibly look like identical twins. But cool to see an additional sliver of image on Paramount's. I hadn't noticed that.

They're exactly the same with the only difference being 1.78:1 to 1.85:1

The screenshots look that way, yes. So why do they differ in motion? Their bitrates are just as similar.

Yeah, I'm gonna presume there isn't enough difference even in motion to plop another 50 bucks. There's probably no difference at all in any way, and someone could just be seeing what they want to see. Either way, this is splitting hairs and the SF set is epic.

Waiting on Part 3 comparisons. But I'm never buying F13 on Blu-ray again unless there's something new and significant included. The Shout Blus are as good as I need them.

Yeah, I agree. The SF set is spectacular. The only way I'm buying these again is when SF releases 4K versions like they are doing for the Halloween films.
