I think the only Touchstone movie they've ever "rebranded" as Disney is The Nightmare Before Christmas. I guess if they were going to do it to another one, it'd be Roger Rabbit, but fortunately, that looks not to be the case.
I've always loved the Touchstone logo sliding in as that bass plucking starts. ![]() |

YES!!! Love this movie. December 7 oh yeah!!!
Cover - my first thought is the slip. I like more Jessica on the steel, but I don't like the washed out faces/skin. I forget - will the standard/slip have disc art? That might be a selling point haha. |

The problem is that all these titles were already done for Disney. It isn't like they took all of 2020 to actually work on these movies or other titles like other studios. If they were working on stuff in 2020/2021, we would have seen more titles being announced/leaked. Not 1 title every 3 months.
But I would love to be proven wrong. Maybe 2022 is where Disney decides to assault our wallets. Quote:

An HDR10 presentation of a DV-mastered HDR restoration is an inferior version. I'd stick with the Dolby presentation on streaming over an HDR10 on disc. Disney and Sony don't put DV on disc because of the extra fees and work involved. Practically every film being restored today in 4K is mastered in Dolby Vision, as it allows for every scene (and sometimes shot) to be individually mapped. (Dolby Vision is the industry standard, with some slight competition from HDR10+). HDR10 is one single tone curve for the entire film.

If a film was mixed for Dolby Atmos and it released on disc with a 5.1 DTS mix, then it would be an inferior version of the mix. Same is true for Dolby Vision in the HDR space. They also wouldn't restore or master films in Dolby Vision if HDR10 provided the same amenities. Disney doesn't include a Dolby Vision layer on UHD because it would increase their costs (Dolby has a pretty steep licensing fee for a company that already doesn't really care about physical media).
The streaming version of this film will have DV HDR as was mastered by the colorist and restoration team, which (potentially) include different brightness/darkness and contrast point per scene/shot, albeit with lossy audio and streaming compression. The disc version will have lossless audio and high bitrate, but the sacrifice is that there is only one tonal curve for the entire feature. Last edited by Adam4Rizzel; 08-19-2021 at 08:33 PM. |

In regards to compression, no, but in my opinion, compression can and has gotten better over time. For example, I now have access to lossless versions of various iTunes tracks that I purchased in 2007 because of Apple's update. There's no reason that Apple couldn't offer lossless audio and a higher bitrate for the copy of Roger Rabbit in my iTunes library and perhaps that's something they, or another streamer, adds later on. I also live in NYC and don't have much room to store a million discs, so I stream 95% of everything I watch. I only buy 4K discs when the definitive version of the film is presented. (It's really exciting that I will be able to own a copy of Citizen Kane that is the definitive copy/restoration of the film, has DV, lossless audio, etc.). When a Roger Rabbit comes out on disc without DV, when it was mastered in DV, it isn't a definitive copy. Neither is the streaming version, because of its compression. However, I prefer to see the meticulously mastered Dolby presentation over the HDR10, as I'd prefer to see the precise color and tonal detail inherent in the film negative, even if it comes with the artifacts that every streaming service has. Same reason I'd prefer to listen to a lossy Atmos track over a lossless 2.0 track. Last edited by Adam4Rizzel; 08-19-2021 at 08:56 PM. |

I bet you're one of those people that like to star up at the clouds with a little sherry, point, and scream the sky is falling.

I'd rather scream over the presentation of an artist's cinematography than over a piece of cardboard that goes over a 12mm blue piece of plastic. Also, I'm more of a scotch guy.

There is no "uncompressed" video for consumer use out there. A BD-100 properly space and bandwidth utilized is just less compressed. |

So just how censored is this movie at this point? Does Baby Hermann still smoke and smack women's bums? Have they made Jessica's a B cup? I'd heard about them toning this movie down over the years, but haven't kept up with it. I still just have my old standard def DVD from back in the day.
