Paramount had a policy of not licensing out titles that they had previously released on DVD (with a couple exceptions). And I read supposedly, they were planning a release of it a while back, but they started restoring it in the wrong aspect ratio and eventually just dropped it from their schedule.

lol , what a mess. 1.37:1 is the aspect ratio, nothing too difficult to restore , it's not cinemascope ratio with color correction, it's black and white.

That's just what I read at one point, so take it with a grain of salt. It may be false, anyway.

I totally believe it is Universal's fault, but if someone like you doesn't stand up for what you release, it's a lost fight right from the start isn't it? And for those of you who say that having those 3 sections in mono rather than the stereo they are supposed to be is no big issue, I am willing to bet this is not one of your favorite films, but each person I have seen make a comment like that, looking into their posting history, they sure have complained about the titles they love.

Universal should be repressing this and replacing it...and Kino should get behind its customers. That is what should have happened with Sweet Charity with the omission of the breaks for that "roadshow" release. There are 3 titles important to me from Universal, from the Kino deals. Sweet Charity was a big problem as the intermission and exit music were left off (yet advertised on the package). Now Millie's Overture, Intermission and exit music are in Mono. I wonder how Flower Drum Song will be screwed up.

I am sorry Kino but when a distributor like yours says "no reason to fix it." it says volumes about how much you really care for the people keeping you in business. I have had alot of respect for you and have over 400 of your titles, but my opinion of you just changed very much. You should be standing behind the film fans and at least try to force Universal to fix this problem.
If I was Kino, I would pull the plug on Flower Drum Song, it’s not worth it to go through this again.

That sure solves the issue LOL. I can't believe fellow movie fans are attacking me so for wanting the best from Kino and more-so from Universal with one's favorite movies. I bet if I go to the Star Wars threads I will see the same "youngens" complaining to Disney. I have supported Kino by having a shelf of over 400 Kino releases, so get off my back people for wanting the "true" roadshow!. There should be a recall, and by the way I am blaming , in the end, Universal! not Kino!

Tales from While Supplies Last -- Just watched Betsy's Wedding and Holy Matrimony. Still available for $8 (I paid $5 a few months ago). Worth it for the time warp, OK stories, and good to strong performances. Betsy's was the stronger of the two -- what a cast. Too many to name! A part of me felt like it aspired to be a Woody Allen movie. It has more heart that most of Allen's work, but less pathos than Father of the Bride.

Holy Matrimony was OK overall, but not as bad as some negative reviews make it out to be. Patricia Arquette is loads of fun, and 12 year old Joseph Gordon-Levitt gives a solid performance. There's no way to watch him and not think, "this kid can act!"

Other items of interest -- love the old Touchstone and Hollywood Pictures logos. Also a Kino logo I hadn't seen before. Kind of overwrought and I'm glad they retired it. Holy Matrimony's screenwriters next wrote The Rock. Ted Churchill is credited as the steadicam operator -- I feel like I know his name. Maybe he did some early steadicam stuff? Nimoy and Alda never directed another film.

People aren't "attacking" you for wanting that, you just need to dial down the rhetoric.

Hey KLI, with Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s “wife of a spy” soon to be released theatrically by you guys, can you confirm that the film will receive a blu ray release too in the near future?

The problem isn’t the sentiment, the problem is you’re being a real jerk about it. And hyperbolic. And troll adjacent. Nobody can take you seriously as a result.

And instead of complaining in mono you have these alt accounts so you can complain in stereo.

I think a Kay Francis collection containing her final three Monogram films would be interesting, but it's never going to happen.

Years ago, a rumor that Criterion Collection may release it... years later, we're still waiting, and waiting long enough that I can't buy anything from them anymore. All that's been released on this movie is a U.S. DVD long ago or imported blu-ray garbage with forced english captioning.

Always liked this film. Interesting history. While not a top-rank western, it is entertaining. Filmed in Super Panavision with Technicolor and six-track stereophonic sound, MacKenna's Gold was originally intended as a Cinerama film and should, at the very least, look and sound great! Hopefully, this will get a fresh scan from the original camera negative.

Looking forward to retiring my DVD someday -- sooner would be better : )

Still waiting for a decent release of The Hallelujah Trail. And still remember how *magnificent* Trail looked in its initial Cinerama roadshow release. Maybe Olive will come up with a Signature release. Or Columbia/Sony could give it some respect.
