Default "Resurrection" - Coming from Vinegar Syndrome in September 2021

Quote:
This special limited edition embossed slipcover (designed by Ralf Krause) is limited to 5,000 units and is only available here at VinegarSyndrome.com!

Jaded homicide detective, John Prudhomme, has been put on the case of a ruthless killer who is hunting the city of Chicago, leaving a trail of horribly mutilated and dismembered corpses, all of which are missing at least one body part, along with perversely ironic biblical quotes. After the unexpected arrival of a neurotic FBI agent named Hollinsworth, who believes he might know the identity of the assailant, the two men join forces to catch a cunning psychopath who all too conveniently seems to be a step ahead…

An ultra stylish hybrid of 90s cop action, murder mystery, and astonishingly gruesome slasher, Russell Mulcahy’s (Razorback) RESURRECTION stars cult actor and Cesar Award winning Christopher Lambert (Subway, Mortal Kombat), alongside character actor Leland Orser (Taken, The Bone Collector) and David Cronenberg (Scanners, Crash) in one of his few on screen performances. Never released on Blu-ray, Vinegar Syndrome presents this uniquely sadistic and ultra stylish thriller in a brand new restoration.
Quote:

I really enjoyed the Se7en rip offs that sprung up in the late 90’s. This and Bone Daddy are the two that always come to mind when look back at these knock offs. It’s no where on the same planet quality-wise as the film it was trying to mimic, but I always had a soft spot for it.

I liked this movie better than Seven back in 2000.

I prefer Silence of the Lambs.

I guess it helps that Hopkins, Foster and Scott Glenn and the rest of the cast are just better than what we get with Seven.

As for Resurrection... Maybe my opinion of a movie I last saw 20 years ago will be different now. Who knows? But I can only base my opinion of the movie on my viewing of it then.

Is this going to turn into a Se7en hating thread?

Se7en is a modern masterpiece

Hopefully I still do

It's not about hating the movie.

I don't hate Seven. I've always liked the thrillers of that time period...

Seven has some good imagery, but the characterizations aren't good enough to raise the stakes and give the film emotional impact. IMO.

Looks like I'll be holding on to the DVD for the commentary; shame they couldn't snag the license for that. I remember it being pretty good, in particular Mulcahy talking about compromises to the shooting style that had to be made for budgetary reasons (handheld vs. dolly). Regardless, so glad this landed in the great hands at VS!!

I wouldn't go quite that far, but do love both of them.

Man, just as I was getting ready to clear a spot and cash in, but the real prices on ebay aren't really near Amazon wish-prices anyway. I'll be keeping too, even though I doubt I'll ever get back to that comm. But you never know..
Plus, if you would've asked me last night how much my Resurrection dvd was worth, I would've guessed $5 or so.

Cool to see this announcement and it getting some love. Flick doesn't seem to have a huge fanbase, but is already more than I expected. So tempted to just go ahead and pre-order, but they'll have a sale around Halloween, right?

I threw my Resurrection DVD up on Amazon this morning and it already sold, and it more than pays for the Blu and moreso. It looks like there are a bunch more for sale all of a sudden on there now, though.

I didn't even know there was a commentary track on the DVD, never looked, but if I hadn't listened to it in 20 years of having the DVD, I'm never going to listen to it. And I need space. Outside of VERY special titles, which are very few, I don't mind losing extras when upgrading, especially extras I never watched, which is pretty much 99%.

Wonder if the interpositive they're using contains the few, brief bits that is missing in some prior releases. My recollection is a bit fuzzy but I think the international releases kept those in.
