Cinema peaked with the scenes of Emo Peter.

I like Spiderman 3. It's arguably the worst of the trilogy but it's still a pleasing ending and great fun to watch.

I really think it sucks to watch a lot because Peter is, at his core, a self less person and so the arc of becoming selfish is just not really something he would struggle with. This in addition to some studio mandated additions kinda make it a slog. That said the action is top tier and the final fight with the Harry team up is ACES.

Dude the whole point of it is what does the suit do to a selfless nerd? It turns him into a selfish narcissist. That's the entire point of it.

What does it do to an amoral and greedy Topher Grace? Turns him into a monster.

I didn't mean it was lifted straight from the comics just that it fits with the character and something that they would do in the "What If" line. Instead of a shy science major, he was confident, outgoing but nasty.

I thought it was funny at the time and liked seeing the "What if" scenario. I'll see how I feel about it 15 years older.

Bingo. A lot of people don't get that. It's like in Lord of the Rings where the ring will turn men into selfish monsters while Hobbits tend to handle it better at least for a bit.

It showed Peter is pure at heart. The suit corrupted him but it just gave him confidence and made him selfish. It showed a side of him we haven't seen and I thought it was entertaining.

I understand what the point was but Peter is not someone who would be tempted by that. He's an Aragorn, not a Boromir. I think the suit work as an enabler for your worst desires is great but Peter is not someone who desires attention like that and they were forcing this random, massive ego in before the suit even touched him. The revenge angle of it where he goes after his uncles murderer is far more interesting but overshadowed by the emo phase. Seriously why he is flirting with Gwen at the opening? The previous two movies worked overtime to show that he LOVES Mary Jane, he would never do that to her.

Spider-Man's popularity has gone to his head a bit, then the suit exaggerates that to crazy heights. Again, that's the point. It seems like you want him to be a flawless character, which would be quite boring.

As a life-ling Spider-Man fan who has read every issue multiple times and watched every show and cartoon from the 60s to the middle of Ultimate Spider-Man, please, tell me where this was straight out of the comics?

Peter wasn't a dancing fool in the cartoon either...

The Symbiote never altered someone's mind in the comics.
That only started with the 90s cartoon.

I don't want him to be flawless! Thats silly. I just don't think his trajectory in that series would ever lead him to a selfish place. He has plenty of faults and I love how they're explored in the previous films. He overcommits, he doesn't communicate, he's a tad reckless, insecure, etc. I really like the suit making him vengeful and impatient and would say it leads to the best conflicts in the movie because it goes back to his behavior in that first movie when he loses his temper with Ben. He's kind of like a Luke Skywalker type in this way. But he's just not someone who's full of himself.

Raimi mentioned Spider-Man 3 in a recent interview:
https://www.superherohype.com/movies...ctor-strange-2

Quote:
During a new interview with Collider, Raimi admitted that he wasn’t sure about returning to superhero movies. Raimi also explained why he ultimately decided to do it.

“I didn’t know that I could face it again because it was so awful, having been the director of Spider-Man 3,” said Raimi. “The Internet was getting revved up and people disliked that movie and they sure let me know about it. So, it was difficult to take back on. But then, I found out that there was an opening on Doctor Strange 2. My agent called me and said, ‘They’re looking for a director at Marvel for this movie and your name came up. Would you be interested?'”

“And I thought, ‘I wonder if I could still do it,'” added Raimi. “They’re really demanding, those types of pictures. And I felt, ‘Well, that’s reason enough.’ I’ve always really liked the character of Doctor Strange. He was not my favorite, but he was right up there with the favorites. I loved the first movie, I thought [director] Scott Derrickson did a wonderful job, an incredible job. So, I said, ‘Yeah.’ They left the character in a great place. I didn’t think I would be doing another superhero movie. it just happened.”

I watched the whole trilogy in 4K recently with my dad (I saw the first film at the cinema with him in 2002). I always knew 3 was rough and didn't enjoy it the first time about 10yrs back.

However, while it is unmistakably the worst of the trilogy I found it a lot more enjoyable this time around. My problem on my original viewing (aside from the obvious cringe scenes) was that it had too many things going on. Strangely, this time it didn't bother me and I was quite entertained with the flow of it.

It'll forever be the lesser of the three films, but for me, the only thing this movie really needs to make it decent is for the aforementioned cringe scenes to be cut. Just give me a cringe-free cut via seamless branching.

Did you watch that editor's cut? If so, how is it?
