Fellow Blu'ers!!
I'm currently in the market for a new LCD TV to replace my tried and true 1080i 32" Philips. Don't get me wrong it looks great playing blu-ray movies but I'm not getting the full experience with it. I'm currently looking for a 40" to 46" LCD from Sony or Sharp. I'm pretty picky when it comes to great picture and I really haven't seen anything better than the Sony 46" XBR 1080p, however it's almost $3600 and I can't afford that. Anyone have any suggestions? |

don't get a sharp if you are picky about PQ, unless its one of the new ones, which are not cheap. i really, really, really have to reccomend my samsung ln-t4065f (lcd). its got a 15000:1 contrast ratio, litterly has blacks as good as a plasma, it comes equiped with all the nessecary bells and whistles such as PiP (my last sharp didn't have it), if you are a gamer, they've got game mode which allows the console to do all the image processing, not the TV, which makes for a better experience. god i sound like a samsung shill on here

You can get the Sony XBRs from Amazon for a lot less than their list. A 46" xbr2 runs around what, $2300? And consider you will likely not be paying sales tax on it, and sometimes luck out and get free "white glove" shipping and it is a pretty solid deal.

Samsung Makes Very Good Displays. Also Have Read In All Of The Home Audio And Video Magazines The The Human Eye Can Not Distinguish The Differance Between 1080i Or 1080p On Displays 50 Inches Or Smaller Unless You Watch Tv From 2 Feet Away.

You really seem to like Sony. Picture quality wise, you would probably be happiest with a Sony.
Remember, don't get a TV that is too large for the room, if that isn't the case, I think the 40" Sony is a nice compromise. That is still 8" more than your current 32" HD-TV. Still too pricey? Look at Panasonic. If I couldn't buy Sony I would get Panasonic. Built to last. |

I did find a great deal on the 40" Sony XBR Bravia I was looking for $1,749 on Amazon.com. It has 3 HDMI outs and is Full 1080p. Should I stick to my 32" 1080i Philips (which has outstanding picture btw) or go for the gold with Sony??? ![]() If I don't buy the Sony, I'll just be using that $$$ on blu-ray movies and more PS3 games |

I just bought the Samsung LN-T4065F. I absolutely love it. One thing to note, unlike most LCDs the Sammy has a glossy screen. Be sure if you go for it that you do not have a window nearby or you might get some glare. Otherwise you will be more than happy with it.

Why is everyone moving to LCD? If you are really picky about picture quality and detail, then get a plasma. They do give you a better picture: faster refresh rate (no blur), loads better and more accurate color (more detail), 1080p available (just as sharp as LCD), usually cheaper (unless looking at 1080p sets, then they are the same). Panasonic makes a great 50" plasma, they also have a 42". They may give you some glare/reflection if your room has lots of windows. Don't worry about burn-in as much these days, it is becoming more rare. And it is rated at 100,000 hours, which is 42.5 years at 6.5 hours per day. Think about it.

I almost bought a sony 52" lcd tv before the saleman asked if I had any young kids.......
That changed my mind to getting the 60" rear projection tv...... ....the reasoning behind changing to rear projection......the boy can throw something at the tv and it wont break....if I would have bought the lcd....most likely it would have been a gonner. |
