After watching Halloween 2018 a few days ago , and not liking it much. It had a lot wrong with it and was pretty darned boring all the way to the end.

I loved this one. Loved it. I'm so glad Laurie was sidelined first of all.
The flashback with the cops in myers house and Loomis , showing how Myers got caught, was fantastic . One issue I had with the first movie was i felt that myers should have gotten away becasue having him caught and in a prison for years made him too human ... well they way they did this scene showing him surrounded by cops out side his home was awesome. It was an awesome scene and with how good it was when the title came up and the music started, I was so ready for this.

Thinking wow, maybe this wont suck.

And it didnt. I loved that they brought back characters from the first movie . That was a great idea.

I liked the new characters, a lot more than I liked Laurie and her family.

I liked that they established that Myers is not after Laurie.

The kills were amazing. I really enjoyed the amount of blood and gore , the atmosphere for this movie was a lot darker in tone.

The scene where he gets out of the burning house .... awesome.

The music in this movie was top notch.

I loved the hospital scene. I loved how they showed how easily people can fall into a mob mentality . It was a great series of events. So much chaos and moving parts that all came together with a violent mob and an *innocent man jumping to his death rather than be torn apart by crazed people.

I also loved how it ended. LOVED IT. I dont know about anyone else but I was rooting for michael. Its a horror movie, you want to see the bad guy do his thing and he delivered.

I was blown away by how good this way , especially after how bad 2018 was, and watching a couple other stinkers the other day i expected this to be pretty bad as well.

10 out of 10 for me. I hope the next one ramps it up even more.
I know, opinions and all, but 10/10 is pretty laughable for this film. So according to your post this is the epitome of grade-A filmmaking with zero flaws?

I bolded the part of your post that highlights one of the biggest issues with this film (I didn't care for the last one much either):

- In the original films (Halloween, II, 4, and even 5), you rooted for the protagonists. Dr. Loomis, Laurie and her friends, Lindsey, Tommy, the hospital staff, Jamie, Rachel - you were rooting for them to survive. And in all of them, the kills were on the tamer side (Halloween II and IV got a bit more graphic but they were PG material compared to what's in this film).

- In the new films, they've turned this series into a Friday the 13th clone, which is ironic, considering Friday the 13th was created to cash in on the success of Halloween. You said it yourself - you were rooting for Michael Myers in this one - the polar opposite of the intended effect in the original films. Now the characters are annoying and you're just hoping Michael bumps them off. They've turned Michael into Jason Voorhees. And this film is a lot more graphic - on the level of the Rob Zombie remakes (which I do enjoy as they were a totally different take on the story so should be judged separately). This film is supposed to be directly connected to the first film and '18, but it feels nothing like the original, other than the flashback scenes. For all the heat Rob Zombie's versions took for the graphic violence, this film (and the previous one) is just as graphic.

I just watched the original 1-5 this weekend, and I'll take those over this new trilogy, despite the faults those sequels have as well. At least they were fun to watch and had some good suspense. The scene with Jamie trapped in the chute in part 5 and the rooftop scene in part 4 tops anything in this film in terms of suspense imo. This film just didn't have any decent suspense. I didn't totally hate it but both of these films have been a disappointment to me.
