If you think Target's physical media sales are suddenly super profitable because lots of people are buying discs, eithet generally or during B2G1 sales, that's not the reason. Disc sales are still way down and only going lower. Publishers, trying to minimize costly overstock they can't sell, are filling orders slower, not to mention retailers are just ordering less. It's just a consequence of that market reality. It's easy for folks like us on here who buy physical media to think loads of people are flocking to Target.com and buying droves of discs. Sorry, that's not happening. |

However, if you made an online purchase, it won't be credited until the title ships. |

I also haven't kept up with overall media sells figures and have reason not to trust digital numbers that are likely still being fudged, just as they were over a decade ago when they were just getting going, but reports were coming in years ago, of select studios with especially aggressive digital agendas being concerned that streaming adoption was stabilizing too soon. The pandemic gave it a boost, and now the latest news suggests that boost is largely over. The fact is, much, if not most of the market changes we've seen - which have been greatly exaggerated by deceptive marketing and the preponderance of naive and "sellout" internet journalism - are related to changes in a rental industry that had gotten out of corporate hollywood's control - it's been a market stabilization as it were. The core collector market still values real, tangible product they have legal claim to, just as they always have, even if they do value having a copy they can watch on the go as well. So, if the physical market is still diminishing at any kind of appreciable rate - which I've heard for years that it's not dying nearly as fast as certain studios hoped or have even actively tried to bring about - it's likely because the customer base itself is dying out, literally - there are reasons young people have been the most aggressively targeted for streaming adoption: aside from the fact that it "seems" the most affordable (it's really not when you factor in buying and selling, the loss of millions of copies of rental surplus hitting the market, not to mention the long term pricing agenda that we're only beginning to get a taste of) for a demographic that doesn't have much disposable income or space of their own for that matter, but they're the future and by mere lack of life experience, the most easily manipulated. Of course, the present pandemic economy has certainly caused many financial hardships for all ages. Last edited by JurassicBD; 02-02-2022 at 05:10 AM. |

I see the same complaints about preorders being out of stock from Amazon, BB, etc. I’ve been waiting 2 months now on a Kino title I preordered back in the Nov. sale, while others have reported that their order was shipped. People have contacted Kino about Amazon and Target stock issues and KLI has responded that they don’t know the issue because the titles were sent to them. It has to be more of a pandemic era supply chain or distribution issue. The irony to me is that in other markets a preorder is a guaranteed advance purchase that allows the producer to manufacture a more accurate quantity of the item. That vibe seems to have gone out the window here.

The supply chain is still broken. Next up for shortages will be books. Lumber prices are still thru the roof, and it's starting to impact paper. Several small-press publishers I buy from regularly have delayed some projects due to a lack of paper.

WTH?! I haven't seen a book on a store shelf from McCammon in almost 10 years. I didn't know he had limited editions.
