Not everybody feels safe at this point going back to cinemas. But, aside from that, Disney already decided on a release date and I don't imagine there's anything that's going to make them change their minds.

There is so much CGI in these movies. Just because principal photography is done, doesn't mean they are done with post-production.

I tend to believe it is in the can by now. Disney is wishy washy at best. I don't believe anything they say anymore. Too far left for me. If you don't feel safe by now, it's your fault.

Reviewers tried to sugar-coat the downgrade by saying that the "movie-tier" motion blur makes up for the jerkiness of only having 50% of the temporal resolution. Moral of the story is that reviewers were wrong, 30 FPS + motion blur looks staccato, like stop motion with Vaseline slathered on the camera, and brings to mind the ole Jackson Browne song "Doctor, My Eyes"

If Cameron is specifically shooting scenes for 48 FPS then only getting half of those frames comes with similar issues.
I thought The Hobbit looked absolutely fine at 24 fps. (Not to mention infinitely superior to how it looked at 48. Oops, I mentioned it.)

Edit: I keep seeing stuff about Avatar 2 here and going off topic myself. Anyway, the 3D pedigree for Strange 2 promises excellence, what with Raimi's previous movie, Oz TGAP, being fantastic native 3D, and the first Strange being fantastic converted 3D. With this new one perhaps being among the final big offerings from this era's 3D, I'm hoping it lives up to its great stereo expectations.

Nobody cares what you think of Disney’s politics. That’s the definition of off topic. Not to mention the idea that Disney as a giant corporation are ‘far left’ is hilarious. Politics and political comprehension presumably isn’t your strong suit so maybe stay on topic?

Personally, I don't care if you don't care. I never asked you before I posted. So bite me.

That’s very edgy and cool, but my point is that talking about the politics of the corporation that owns the studio making this movie and talking about whether or not the pandemic is ‘over’ is about as off topic as it gets, plus incredibly tedious for anyone else reading. As far as I’m aware off topic conversation is frowned upon in the 3D forum, so maybe if there’s a ‘uninformed political discussion’ thread you could take it there?

Well, for better of for worse, this conversation does have to stay on topic. People are totally free to buy or not buy tickets to any movie that comes out. Nobody is being forced to patronize businesses they don't wish to do business with and that's about it.

For my part, I'm really looking forward to any movies that do get released in 3D this year, I'll be watching DSMOM in 3D 4DX and couldn't be more excited about it!

Ditto, 4DX all the way! I’ve never ever watched a movie more than once in the cinema, but maybe this will break that spell for me if I end up checking out the 3D IMAX version too. I don’t usually enjoy watching the same movie back to back, but if my only chance of ever seeing the IMAX version in 3D is time limited, and the movie is as good as I’m expecting then it would probably be worth it!

Was The Hobbit "built" for 48 FPS though? Cameron mentioned the issues with panning in 3D with 24 FPS (sadly Alita seems a case-in-point), which has me wondering if because he believes 48 FPS will enable him to employ otherwise-unwise filming techniques that he will use them ad astra and build the film around them.

I'm not sure how this became an honorary Avatar thread but it has been fun.

BTW do we know much about the extensive, and extremely so, reshoots that DS2 is undergoing? I heard there was backlash after the trailer and that reshoots were the order of the day.

Will this result in a rush job conversion effort, which was what was mentioned as being part of the reason that NWH was mild 3d?

You are correct but who died and made you the moderator. I don't think he needs any help from you. So I suggest you move on to what you can control which is nothing.

You can reply to this if you like but I am done with you. You are not worth me wasting my time on. Toodles

I've seen some placeholder ticket showtimes and the only real IMAX in my area will have only one 3D IMAX showing a day, starting on Friday (no 3D IMAX on opening Thursday night).

One showing is better than none, I suppose, so I probably shouldn't complain

Looks like AMCs are starting IMAX 3D showtimes on Thursday, but they're all matinees.

There's 4 Laser IMAXes within 40 minutes of me. Would it kill one of them to offer a single evening showtime in IMAX 3D?

EDIT: The very last one added an evening showtime in IMAX 3D. Phew, but I'll believe it when I can buy tickets for it. I'm still reeling from when I planned to get tickets for No Way Home in Prime 3D, but the showtime switched to 2D at the last second.

Very pleased to report my Laser Imax theater is presenting Doctor Strange in 3D! This is should be the best way to watch this movie….I will also try the 4DX, but given the 4dx projectors are garbage compared to the Imax lasers AND the 4dx presentation will be missing the taller aspect ratio, I’m very confident in predicting the laser Imax presentation will absolutely wipe the floor with 4DX and pretty much any other presentation…but I’ll report when the time comes….excellent development and reinforces the fact that the MCU is not done with 3D in theaters or at home (at least in Japan—but I’ll happily take it!)

Corporations (since they are not merely abstract creations but ultimately represent a hierarchy of presumably human CEOs/CFOs, managers, employees, etc.) can absolutely make political decisions in numerous ways including how they operate (I.E. hiring processes, choice of charities) along with the messaging they deliver and the product they sell. We've seen numerous examples on steroids of corporations making politically based business decisions since 2020.

Perhaps you should look up the definition of 'far left' then. Far left typically refers to communism, or even left of that. So yes, the idea that one of the biggest corporations in the world might espouse views that relate to the rejection of capitalism is definitely hilarious. Of course, I'm being a little facetious here, because the overton window is (unfortunately) a thing, and as I said, political education and comprehension in many countries is severely lacking, the results of which can be seen here, but calling Disney far left by any definition is is just sublimely ignorant.

After all, the recent newsworthy Disney stuff started because they remained quiet on anti-LGBTQ bills and were noted to have donated to republican authors of said bills - which again, if anyone believes is the action of a 'far left' company then I think am entitled to my laughter about it. It was only backlash that caused them to come out and say something, just like how they only put in representation of LGBTQ stuff when it can be easily edited out for an Eastern audience. Typical centrist line toeing behaviour you can expect of any giant corporation. If you think that is far left then it might be time to consider how much propaganda you swallow on a daily basis quite frankly, and implying corporations have only been heavily involved in politics since 2020 is another telltale sign of that... I mean, where do you even begin with that? Remind me what year Citizens United happened again?

In any circumstance, even entertaining your confusing thoughts on politics for a second, I still fail to see what that has to do with Doctor Strange in 3D, whatever your beliefs about the matter. I've seen people scolded by mods for going 'off topic' by talking about VR or potential future 3D technology, so I wish there was more consistency in that department. I for one would much rather read a page of discussion of 3D adjacent topics, even if slightly off topic, than another confused rant about representation in movies or whatever the latest hot buzzwords for the politically uninformed are (on that note, if I never have to read the word 'woke' again I'll sleep soundly).

Could we, maybe, just get back to the thread topic?

So does anyone think the 3D IMAX engagement in the US will be for one week only? I'd hate for it not to play a few weeks in 3D, but things being what they are....

Any idea what time advance tickets usually go on sale at AMC? Their website doesn't say. Thanks.

They are asking for at least the opening week with 3D showtimes, after that its up to theater/chain and ticket sales.

So about the mysterious trailers, there will be 3 mandatory trailers in front of this totaling approx. 5 min 45 secs (all 3). Trailers are about 2 min 30 sec each in average so use your imagination on this

That is all the info i have for now.
