It was plainly obvious that it was spliced back into the film and have not been treated in years, yet they still released the cut. I think that if they did it for Army of Darkness, they can do it for The New Blood. Call it something like Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood: The Video Nasty Edition! Market it with the consumer knowing full well that the video on the newly inserted footage will not look as good as the footage that has been preserved over the years, but this is as good as it is going to get. I think it can be done.
Yeah, that was the same as the 2-disc LE dvd where they had to use to beat to shit print on some of the director's cut. A beat to shit print can be cleaned to an extent, a VHS can do far less. It was also for dvd, so the quality jump wasn't as jarring as it would be on a nice HD scan.

Plus, all that footage was never lost. MGM had a nice dvd out somewhere overseas, either Korea or Hong Kong, which had the footage from a good source. Then they got the good source for the blu-ray set.

From all I have read about the Friday footage, Paramount has let many people in to look for it, and no one has ever been able to locate it. This has caused them to claim it lost forever, but the same shit happened with My Bloody Valentine and that footage re-surfaced 20some years later where it wasn't supposed to be. Sadly, I'm sure Friday was looked for much more vigorously and diligently so it very well might be gone. I'm hoping some disgruntled ex-employee made off with it and will either put it on the market (doubtful, the time to strike at that would've been when Scream was preparing the boxset) or it will surface when they die and someone goes through his or her shit.
