Kirk's not coming on until season 2, played by Paul Wesley. I was getting confused because they kept talking about Kirk so I was like wait, that's not supposed to happen yet lol

I loved the first episode. There was very little, if anything really, that didn’t work for me. Really enjoyed the story, really like the cast. Early days, but this could be great. |

Superb second episode too. I love the fun this is having, and discovering the musical language was particularly enjoyable. Uhura came into her own here, and the new engineer (who I mistook for Andorian at first) seems cool. Pike's hair is something to behold at the moment.
I really liked the look of the Shepherd alien race, and I felt that he looked kind of familiar. Eventually it clicked that the design reminded me of Space Precinct! ![]() The moment at the start where the camera flew through the comet's tail was obviously a little nod to DS9's intro. But I SWEAR I heard the music play the first few notes of the DS9 opening fanfare too, just really subtly before stepping away from it. Was I just imagining things? In reality, we have no idea what her relation is to Khan at this point, but we do know - because it's been implied in screen scripts and stated in pre-show interviews - that she IS genetically and socially related to Khan and does have some sort of Augment heritage, which is going to be revealed in later episodes. Most likely, she is a distant relation to Khan, through his "recreational activities" and the Augment DNA is so diluted through generations of inter-breeding with regular human stock that it would not have been red-flagged in a genetic scan. As this obviously pre-dates Space Seed by several years, there is no genetic reference for Khan's DNA in Starfleet archives and we do know that other colonization sleeper ships were launched from Earth, into the galactic void, so there's plenty of wiggle-room for her to exist free of the well-established Khantinuity of Star Trek. |

The actress playing Uhura seems out of place, just does not have the look or the gravitas of the Bridge crew in Starfleet. This cadet beat 7 thousand of other applicants? This 'character' is just Uhura in name only and has none of the personality of the original and is easily the weakest of the crew. I hope future episodes don't have her front and center like this week.
Everyone else seems to be clicking in. but for the love of God, someone PLEASE FIX SPOCKS HAIR CUT, it's so bad it's distracting! |

There's also a large difference between being confident in one's abilities and confident in a real time deadline situation when needed to apply that ability. (Real world example: everyone who makes it onto Jeopardy! are very smart, but not everyone does well in the real-time pressure of the game). Uhura as depicted so far in SNW is wholly confident in her great language skills, but using them in a timed life-or-death scenario gave her pause. Now that she succeeded quite admirably that should help her confidence in similar immediate situations going forward.
Series is 2-for-2 so far. Let's keep this ball rolling. |

![]() Reminds me how some fans melted down that Zoe Saldana's Uhura had a relationship with Spock in the Kelvin films, saying her flirtation in the early episodes of TOS wasn't enough to base/start a relationship on. I absolutely adored Zoe in the role and had no problem with it. I'm looking forward to see how Celia's role expands her backstory in SNW. EDIT: Not to mention this was a character that didn't have a canon first name until ST 2009! Last edited by PeterTHX; 05-14-2022 at 12:04 AM. |

Another great episode. While I do like that the other Trek shows focusing on singular arc, I do like them getting back to their roots with just being an adventure show exploring the universe and meeting new species while learning more about themselves.
