The original JP is on my list of films I want to upgrade to 4K, but the lackluster reviews on the PQ has given me pause. Waiting for a rescan and restoration from Universal may be a fruitless exercise though.

Some people posted earlier in the week that JP & JW were in Best Buy and Walmart. None of the others were though.

Just got the standalone Jurassic Park 4K blu-ray. Will probably skip the rest, except maybe Jurassic World. Don't think JP II and 3 really warrant the update to 4K, and already have Fallen kingdom in 4K and the BR Steelbook.

Can you tell I like this movie?:

Does that DVD one say "the franchise collection"? Lol, at least they were honest about it

Yup. That's what it says. Though that was back when the franchise was only 3 movies. Not 6.

Interestingly enough, the regular BR disk from the 4K set is the same disk that came in the Best Buy exclusive movie can there. Universal did not even bother with an upgraded BR disk.

They rarely do.

It would have been SO cool to have a complete reversal of the climax of the original film and have the raptor clan gang up on a huge theropod and take him down. I absolutely hate that Universal cheapened out on us in 2001.

Least the could do is give it new disc art. Not just the same black disk from a previous release.

Not at all. You're only interested in JP and TLW, so whether you pick up those two movies individually or a box set that includes all the later sequels, you're buying it for them either way. Why have the third, fourth and fifth movies sit on the shelf as dead weight if you never intend on watching them?

Makes more sense, and looks cleaner, to just get the relevant films.

Complete set?

The JW 5 movie collection 4K from 2019 is the newest set I believe. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Juras...lu-ray/248581/

Otherwise the stand alone 4k releases from 3 days ago are the most current releases at this time.

Looks like the included BD is still the old 1080p transfer from 2011. Darn.

I’m watching the 4K now. And gotta say the master is really good.

Also the audio mix is excellent. Super clear. Can finally tell Hammond says “gas” jeep rather than “guest” jeep when he tells Muldoon to get the kids.

The CGI is starting to look a bit dated and some dinos are starting to look very soft. But considering its 30 year old CGI and still better than a lot of CGI being done today I can’t really complain.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch. This is the best you're going to get, and I doubt very much if Jurassic Park is going to be released again with another 4K transfer from Universal. The movie has been released twice in a boxset already, and once as an individual 4K. There won't be anymore releases of Jurassic Park anytime soon and if so, it will be in another boxset (repackaged with the same disc) with the upcoming sequel. If Universal were anticipating on releasing Jurassic Park with a new 4K transfer, they would've done it with the separate movies releases. If you want Jurassic Park, you might as well go on and buy it while it's only $20.00 with the slipcover.

I thought he always said "gas jeep"

This transfer does the CG no favours because some moron decided to DNR the shit out of those shots, along with any opticals like the location titles when Dodson goes to meet Nedry. It does a huge disservice to such legendary work, but it is what it is and ol' slimgloria is quite correct that it ain't getting revisited any time soon.

I think the most likely scenario, is as sales are slowing we might possibly see Universal license to someone like Arrow, and get a new transfer from them, which Universal will also put out as a cheaper more barebones edition just in time for JP7 in a number of years.

I'm sure Universal will license out Jurassic Park around the same time that James Cameron approves the masters for The Abyss / True Lies and George Lucas helps put out an original, unaltered Star Wars trilogy release.

The 5th film killed the franchise for me. Poor story line and cringe worthy dialogue. Definitely a step down from Jurassic World and worse than Jurassic III and that's saying something!

Universal won't even license out the Jaws sequels.
