I don't think I saw Jennie when I placed my order Sunday morning, otherwise that's one I would have thrown in.

Now I have to treat my sole copy as the precious gem it is.

Those titles are sadly likely never to be released on physical media again.

I wish there was a list of Three-strip Technicolor films on-tap from KL.

I've just ordered three more:

The Garden of Allah (1936)
Blue Skies (1946) w/corrected audio
Under Capricorn (1949)

Right now it's kind of hunt 'n' pick. I really need to set aside the time to make a spreadsheet for myself.

No, I think those rights were sold off after all the mess went down.

Tried to buy the two upcoming Spaghetti Western 4Ks direct but I forgot Kino doesn't accept Paypal for preorders. Bummer. Anyone know if the slipcovers for these are close to selling out?

Carax’s first 3 features are all being restored in 4K at the present. I just truly hope that POLA X and its longer TV edit finally get Blu-Rays

This was long rumored for Twilight Time, too. I just sprang for Imprint’s upcoming disc. Haunting, gorgeous film with an incredible Mark Isham score. Maybe the only American film of the Cold War to show Soviet soldiers in a sympathetic light, and it’s achieved new depth in light of current events

Anthony Mann + John Alton = Brilliance. It really deserves a stand-alone release.

You can order on the release date from Kino and use Paypal - I've done that and gotten a slipcover for every blu/4K that I've ordered (Good/Bad/Ugly, Silence of the Lambs, Bodysnatchers, Misery, Touch of Evil, etc)

It is characteristic of Mann yet feels a bit odd at the same time that his dream project was a western version of King Lear, because, in my mind, he already did that at least three times in The Furies (1950), The Man from Laramie (1955) and Man of the West (1958). Sure, it would have been ecstatic to see a more literal adaptation of the story (especially with three strong female casts) in Mann's west, but I guess I'm not that heartbroken about missing it in this case.

Yeah, it's a fantastic film. Alton's camerawork and Mann's direction create an intensely suffocating, almost fever dream-like atmosphere that underlines the stalking presence of death throughout the film. It's one of the best noirs with a pretty small profile that I've seen.

No casting was announced at the time but if he managed to convince his choice, John Wayne, to play The King it could have been fascinating. If nothing else, as Mann said, Wayne would have handled the silences beautifully. "The words, of course, are another matter."

Yeah, it’s an unconventional noir because it’s a costume drama set during the French Revolution, but Mann/Alton make it noir. Its small profile is probably due to its poverty row origin and its lapsing into the public domain.

This is what the insider has said in the past

I was lucky and got to see the 70mm reconstruction of El Cid over 20 years ago.

I really wish that a good 4k of this would get released.

Maybe for a hundred cigarettes and being moved from laundry duty to the prison library he'll cut a deal. Not that he'd keep it. I sourced the missing footage from the original roadshow cut of Roman Empire for their DVD release but when they decided not to use it - Miramax actually putting cut footage back in a film? - they decided not to pay for it either. Not that they're the only label to pull that one.

Where did you hear about the Carax films getting 4K restorations? I was interested in checking out his films, but figured I'd hold off if his first three films are getting new restorations.
