I’m super excited about this deal but I gotta say it would be a real shock to me if Paramount leases out titles like Saturday Night Fever, Chinatown, and Death Wish to Kino as opposed to releasing them themselves….

Any chance of some Three-strip Technicolor films in this new KL cache?

I've only "rented" one movie from Amazon in my life, and it was this movie. Never thought it would made it to physical media. I love Colleen Camp and wanted to see her as a cop pretending to be a high school student trying to get information on a drug dealing student. It was a very small side story in the movie. Wasn't a great film, but I'd purchase it for Collen Camp!

That’s actually pretty interesting. I have to see this for myself.

After seeing the mention of Sunburn, I thought Paramount retained NA rights while MGM got international.

Any chance Lemon Drop Kid could get a reissue with SDH? I just put this disc on, only realize I'm unable to watch it.

From HTF, when someone posted a very long wishlist of 1950s-1960s films that have not been released on DVD before (quoted below), the KLI said this:

Quote:
[Show spoiler]About Mrs. Leslie (1954)
Alaska Seas (1954)
Amorous Adventures Of Moll Flanders (1965)
Beau James (1957)
Birds And The Bees (1956)
Black Spurs (1965)
Bliss Of Mrs. Blossom (1968)
Botany Bay (1953)
Buster Keaton Story (1957)
Five Branded Women (1960)
Girl Rush (1955)
Hell's Island (1955)
Here Come The Girls (1953)
Hostile Guns (1967)
Hot Spell (1958)
Joker Is Wild (1957)
Judith (1966)
Kid Rodelo (1966)
Let's Dance (1950)
Lucy Gallant (1955)
Mambo (1955)
Mating Season (1951)
My Six Loves (1963)
Oh Dad Poor Dad Mama's Hung You In The Closet (1967)
Omar Khayyam (1957)
Peking Express (1951)
Pleasure Of His Company (1961)
Proud And The Profane (1956)
Rat Race (1960)
Sad Sack (1957)
Sebastian (1968)
Secret Of The Incas (1954)
September Affair (1950)
St. Louis Blues (1958)
Sylvia (1965)
Tempest (1959)
That Certain Feeling (1956)
That Kind Of Woman (1959)
3 Ring Circus (1954)
Thunder In The Sun (1959)
Touch Of Larceny (1960)
Wild Is The Wind (1957)
Wives And Lovers (1963)

We have three of the titles from the above list and asked for a fourth one that wasn't available.
They also mentioned that from the list, 3 Ring Circus (1954) is not available due to music clearance issues, and not on the list, But Not For Me (1959) has similar music issues as well. It's also worth noting that the KLI denied on here one of the titles on the list (Beau James) for likely poor sales, and another one from the list (Secret Of The Incas) has just had a Blu-ray release announced from Imprint. The Mating Season was mentioned on here a while back as well as not having legal issues per the KLI, but no word on interest was stated.

Hmmm... That does look a bit suspect since that eBay listing is the only known source, and if it's a boot it's a really good one!

I do remember seeing Sunburn in HD on the Amazon Prime Epix channel a few years ago and it had an MGM logo up front. There's even a YT copy ripped from an NTSC DVD that had the MGM logo up front. Paramount did release it on VHS, but it's suspected their rights had long expired since.

It was a Brut Production with Warner distributing, and ironically it's back with Warner now (Turner Entertainment purchased Brut's film catalog in the late 80s and as we all know, Turner became part of Warner Bros in 1996). Viacom owned TV rights to the Brut Productions library and Paramount later inherited them from the Viacom purchase, explaining why your copy opens with the Paramountian.

I knew production rights could expire but didn't know distribution rights could also.

Distribution rights can expire if they party fails to renew or the main producer blocks renewals.

I hope Kino releases both.
While I would say they didn't receive top-of-the-line restorations like War of the Worlds, both When Worlds Collide and Naked Jungle look really nice for the most part and are way better than the DVDs. If Kino doesn't release them, I'm still satisfied with the Imprint releases.

I hope Kino goes all out with a "heavy" for their first UHD announcement on Sunday. Should help set the stage.

I wonder if Paramount won't allow the uncut version to be licensed. The Legend Films DVD was also cut. Or perhaps the removed footage was tossed?

If the uncut version isn't available, I also question if Kino would be willing to pick it up?

Interesting that you should mention Brut. I watched Bubba Ho-Tep about a week ago and there was a funny story in the bonus features from Bruce Campbell about Elvis and Brut. Anyone who has that blu-ray should check it out.
