Now please don't think I am complaining, as there have been some absolutely excellent titles released on Blu-ray. Close Encouters, Casablanca, Godfather, the list goes on and on. I think the format is ready for some really heavy hitters. Jaws, E.T., Lawrence of Arabia, Gone with the Wind, Bridge on the River Kwai, Guns of Navarone, and the like. It seems we get one huge title for every 50 Escape from L.A.'s. Now, I for one love all types of films. I just think the format has moved beyond the niche market and is ready for its heavy hitters at a greater rate. And maybe those obscure little Lucas films before they are changed much more.

1st, go take a business course.
2nd, when you're done with that, go look at the original release dates for DVDs. Go look at how long some of the titles you want so bad took after the initial DVD launch. The Force is right. On every Blu-Ray forum, there are multiple threads like this one every week. People just do not understand business at all. It's "I want it, I want it now, and I want it cheap. Why don't the studios do what I ask them to do?" |

One more thing, have you not noticed all of the AAA titles coming out this year? Just off the top of my head you have Snow White, Wizard of Oz, Gone With The Wind, Lord of the Rings Collection, and the Indiana Jones Collection. That's only the stuff that's been announced too. Maybe we'll get Back to the Future, or something like that. All of those listed are either Disney, Warner, or Paramount. Universal hasn't announced their big holiday title(s). Same with Sony and Fox.
Also I think Lawrence of Arabia is slated for December. Last edited by Nutbunnies; 06-16-2009 at 04:44 AM. |

I wonder what percentage of homes have a high def tv. I know I would have never bought my PS3 or be intrested in Blu-ray w/out a HD TV. I wonder what percentage of homes in the U.S. have HD tvs' as their main tv. In addition I'd never buy a BD player unless I had at least a 30" HD TV.

<facetiousness>YEAH! Everybody that wants big movies is just DUMB! Don't you know how business works??? Jeez! </facetiousness>
I guess what bothers me most is the notion that if we sit back and take what the studios keep giving us, we will still be in this position ANOTHER year from now, and the same statements will still be issued from each side. One side says. "Please give us more big releases", the other side: "Don't you understand business???". As was deftly noted by others, Blu adoption is NOT identical to DVD adoption, and I think it's a good and right thing to raise your voice to say what you'd like from these companies. Look at Criterion - taking a survey of what you'd like to have released next, and giving it! Here's an idea - sometimes companies actually listen to their customers! I say, the more folks ask for something, the greater the chance of being heard. Sure there's multiple threads about this, must mean there's more than one person that want's more big name movies to come out. Maybe the studios will use their forum trollers to get wind of a growing disquiet amongst current consumers and forgo their current release plans, and boost the number of big releases. If they are going to entice new consumers into the Blu fold, they're going to have to bait the hook! Cheers, Doc. |

Escape from L.A. should have been called Escape from the movie theatre!
What about Mr. Mom? I remember that movie from when I was a kid. Keaton fighting with the vacuum and the kid with his blankee. Last edited by Vincent Vega82; 06-16-2009 at 05:05 AM. |

Tons of blockbuster releases already on the format and a lot already announced for release by the end of the year, and all people can do is bit*h and complain....
![]() I don't think it's reasonable or realistic to expect the floodgates to open so quickly for what is essentially a new format (the format war only ended about a year ago). These things take time, and HD adoption isn't exactly through the roof quite yet. Not to mention the fact that if everything were released all at once, you'd just complain that you couldn't afford it all, and how you wished they would stagger releases to ease the hurt on your wallet. I actually like getting excited when new things are announced, or an old favorite is released unexpectedly. You'll get much more enjoyment out of the format if you have things to look forward to and keep you interested, rather than just complain about how slowly things are coming out.
