Paramount owns worldwide rights, no HD master can be created without Mann's consent. See my above post.

America is now with Disney/Fox.

I'm saying since the materials are available it shouldn't be hard for an HD scan to be created, but you answered it in your other posts that I guess a director can block an HD scan? I would think the studio could override that, but I guess not?

You said "someone's garage".

All major studios abide by DGA/WGA/SGA rules.

By someone's garage I meant, they are releasing nearly unknown films that are getting 4K remasters because they found elements in someone's garage/basement/attic. Yet a studio film with a huge cult following can't get a HD scan while nearly forgotten films like Walking The Edge get beautiful restoration just seems odd.

So when Michael Mann passes, would the studio be allowed to do an HD scan of it? Not sure how it works at that point.

DGA rules apply to living directors and I hope he lives to be 100, I would love to see him direct more movies. IMBD lists two upcoming films, Enzo Ferrari in pre-production and an announced untitled gangster film.

Why would they have Pat Garret & Billy the Kid? that's now with Warner Brothers, who control the rights to all pre-1987 MGM films.

Pat Garrett And Billy the Kid is expected to come from Criterion as soon as this year, after director Alex Cox spilled the beans in a recent interview.

Out of curiosity, is the ability to block special features from being included with a home video release also guild rules, or is that on a case by case or some other basis?

So I guess with Tropic Thunder it means Dreamworks films are on the table. I really hope we get Match Point, but I'm not holding my breath.

Regency (New Regency) ownership, same reason why Michael Mann's Heat is now with Fox/Disney.
