Default What is the absolute best display for movie watching?

I am looking for the best there is for watching blu-ray and DVD movies. Im not going to be watching sports or tv or anything like that. So 120 or 240hrz dont matter to me unless that is what will make this the best set to have, and from what I have read they are not for me. And I want the best there is. Is it a kuro? A CRT HD? Or something else completly? I would get a CRT front projector but I dont have the room for something like that. So please let me know what is out there. Thank you.

I'd say the absolute best quality is Sony's XBR 34" widescreen Hi-Def tube TV's (which I am a proud owner of) - the drawback, you're limited to 34", only one HDMI port, and they weigh 300lbs.

The general consensus is plasma is better than LCD quality wise (and cue the dissenters), and of plasmas, the general consensus is that that the Kuro's offer the best quality (of which I'm also a proud owner of).

My 2 cents!

If all you really care about is picture quality only.......it's a Kuro. And I'm an LCD owner......blacks are real black and the response times are incredible.

I remember asking this very same question about a year ago. My reseacrh led me to purchase a Kuro Elite Plasma (mine is 60"). I came to the conclusion after comparing all sorts of other flatscreens LCDs and Plasmas. They are expensive, relatively speaking, although recently the prices are much better. A year later, I am still convinced that it is the best.

In addition, if you want to get the best experience, like I did, I ended up also purchasing a DLP projector and setting-up a dual display set-up. I now enjoy the "theater-like" experience with the projector as well as the crystal clear, blackness of the Kuro. This is my feedback. Good luck

Get the Panasonic v10, it has 96hz and is a plasma, no lag and gave you best use of 24p cinema. Yes kudo is nice but can you afford it?

"The Best" would most certainly be an HD CRT. The hardest of the hardcore enthusiast rock those bad boys. Then there's the projector crowd, but I'm not sure of the quality compared to quality Plasma and CRT.
Next up would be Plasma, which would mean a Kuro.
After that, the top LCD's from Samsung, Sony and Toshiba. (maybe the most expensive Sharp and LG's)
A lot of people swear by DLP, but its pretty much a dead technology at this point (same with HD CRT. Just too damned heavy)

All the professional reviews indicate the Pioneer PRO-111FD is the best TV made. However, Pioneer is quitting the plasma business, so supplies may be limited. Panasonic just released their V10 which, if you believe the professionals, is a pretty great TV too. But if you're watching TV in a bright room you may want to consider the Sony and Samsung LCDs.

I can't speak for other manufacturers, but Sony's biggest widescreen HDTV (tube) was their 34" Wega/XBR - good luck finding one, I got the last one in Western Canada (according to the Sony Store).

Here's a link to the specs: http://edmullen.net/manuals/Sony_KD34XBR960_PDF.pdf

They also had a 40" HDTV (tube) but it wasn't widescreen.

Actually, the 101 (signature elite monitor) is ranked higher in terms of PQ.

Samsung LN55A950 IMO the best there is, my buddy has a Pio Elite and we both agree that the A950 is the better set. Of course these are our OPINIONS.
