Bring out the big catalog titles please

I don't think it's reasonable or realistic to expect the floodgates to open so quickly for what is essentially a new format (the format war only ended about a year ago). These things take time, and HD adoption isn't exactly through the roof quite yet.

Not to mention the fact that if everything were released all at once, you'd just complain that you couldn't afford it all, and how you wished they would stagger releases to ease the hurt on your wallet.

I actually like getting excited when new things are announced, or an old favorite is released unexpectedly. You'll get much more enjoyment out of the format if you have things to look forward to and keep you interested, rather than just complain about how slowly things are coming out.

I agree with what you are saying, and please, please don't take my posts as complaints. They are not. My home video catalog is currently at about 60/40 in favor of DVD and shrinking every day. Some studios have released tons of the movies I am talking about: Godfather, Patton, Master and Commander, etc., etc. I guess the best way to say what I am referring to is that in the histories of VHS and DVD, you did not get as many obscure titles without big tentpole releases as well. While a comparison is certainly not valid as home video tastes and economies have changed (it took Star Wars a long time on both of those formats), they had a greater ratio of top notch movies in relation to the B-films. It would have been much longer to get K-19, sex lies and videotapes, and others than it would for something like Jaws. I agree that we have gotten some exceptional movies released. Maybe the issue is with the cost to get those movies ready for release. Certainly people would be more forgiving with a less than stellar image quality with Point Break than they would with Braveheart. Or maybe I am making a mountain out of a mole hill and let them just release as they see fit. I am just really paranoid of the groups out there that want the format to fail, a/k/a subpar download services, and the larger ratio of A list films would serve to cement the market.
