I feel your pain. I have seen many Kino movies, which I have purchased, noted as among their worst sellers (including the Thunderbirds films) and received an equally scathing response when merely asking why "Mixed Company" wasn't among the United Artists releases from the same era. I kinda hate the idea of asking about some films for fear of invoking ire over bad sales -- which I didn't contribute to! Silence is the best medicine for those of us with thin skin, I suppose.

I did however love The Producers, the non-Sellers PP films, and The Nude Bomb.

I for one appreciate KLI’s snark. CS should have a bit of personality.

I get why they would say that; one bad seller means another hit for the company and I don't want harm or badness to come to them. We wouldn't have wonderful these releases (let alone new retail editions of the Thunderbirds movies) if it wasn't for Kino and I can't be ungrateful just because they don't want to a 4K because of bad DVD/Blu sales or because of their response to it. I just felt I could've been given a friendlier response is all (but that's just me), but again, I get it and understand completely.

It's a shame their Thunderbirds movies releases didn't do well, I love them (Thunderbird 6 more so) and am a proud owner of both their DVD/Blu-rays in my (Thunderbirds/Gerry Anderson) collection. I'm forever thankful, grateful, and happy they did give us that plus Spaceballs on 4K (regardless of some missing audio) so why should I say anything different? Thank you, Kino for these releases and more.

The Thunderbirds movies had already been released on Blu-ray in the US and other territories before the Kino release, I don’t know why they’d expect them to be phenomenal sellers.

As do I. Frequently (and literally!) I laugh at loud at many of his replies. But on occasion, the tone goes into the red.

I feel some are too easily offended, especially when the negativity is not directed squarely at the OP. KLSC has done me far more good than harm, and I can accept a little vinegar in exchange for the wonderful work the company has done.

Huh? Which titles have had standard editions? From what I can tell, only a few.

You are right that not that many of their limited editions have sold out. However, their multi-disc boxes and their deluxe editions tend to sell out and so far none of them have come back in standard editions. IIRC Imprint have even stated that they have no plans of releasing standard editions of any of their boxes or the films in them.

Yes, they are limited editions, and they usually only make around 1,500-2,000 copies. Some of their limited editions have also been released in standard editions without the slipcase, but many have not, and most have not even been sold out (the main exception appears to be their multi-disc boxes, which sell out more frequently and none of them have been re-released in any other form).

It seems it is mostly the genre titles - horror, sci-fi, film noir - that tend to sell out.

It's entirely possible Kino took that into account, and the release still underperformed even compared to those lower expectations.

I like the Thunderbirds movies; I find them charming, imaginative, and a great deal of fun, just like all of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's other projects.

They are but I don't think that they have much cultural resonance in the US, unlike in Britain where they are considered to be much more iconic. If you didn't grow up watching Thunderbirds, they can come across as kind of goofy if you see them for the first time as an adult. Team America and the live action movie didn't do the original series any favors either.

So has hundreds of other big-selling titles we and our competitors have re-released, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, The Train, Remo Williams, The Hot Spot, The Producers, Judgment at Nuremberg... We misjudged the cult status and importance of the Thunderbirds movies, it was released a 3000 limited edition by Twilight Time and had sold out.
