I obviously don't have access to KL's sales forecast Excel files, but as much as I love the Frankie/Annette films there just isn't a huge market for them. They're strictly nostalgia pieces for people of a certain age.

I could make the same argument about dozens of titles Kino have released. Furthermore, there are dozens of other titles that don't even have that much going for them.

The Beach Party films have an appeal beyond just nostalgia for the reasons I alluded to previously (the appearance of "Little" Stevie Wonder as a child, Don Rickles, the late career resurgence they brought to Buster Keaton, etc.)

The Beach Party films also appeal to much of the same demographic as the Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine which Kino are seeing fit to re-release.

But, whatever, Kino are dead set against it, so hopefully another label will put the rest of the films out instead. Ideally it would be Olive, but who knows what is going on with them these days. Maybe this new label Sandpiper will take a chance on them.

I would think Beach Party would sell more than either Dr. Goldfoot. I also think it would sell more than quite a bit of the Bob Hope’s that Kino has put out, as well as say any of the obscure pre-Code’s or TV movies. But then I look up Beach Blanket Bingo on this site and see that it’s only in 176 collections while being out for over 7 years.

Paramount disagrees with you since they're giving the 1987 reunion film the Paramount Presents treatment.

The same Paramount who thought it would be smart to wait until 2021 to start releasing the majority of their catalog titles. A dead buyer is a good one!

Excellent point! I’d rather have Beach Party, but I already pre-ordered Back To The Beach.

Well, I’m not dead yet, and Paramount has made me very happy the past 12 months or so. Kino is still #1 though.

Whoever the studio took on to head the Home Video Dept. must be a big fan of physical media. To be perfectly honest I didn't think they would last this long - the revolving doors at these studios are very busy. Better late than never I guess but, yes, the studio was always stingy and clueless even during the early HD revolution. Many of their early DVDs were letterboxed (non-anamorphic) and had very few extras. Interactive menus and scene selections were among the highlights lol.

KLI, Theoretical question - once most or all the popular titles get released or re-released, do you think that there might be demand for titles that are less popular at the moment or from genres that might be less popular? Example, some very obscure titles or titles that are predicted not to do too well. Another example genres like blaxsploitation, that seem to be less popular at the moment.

Didn't Paramount hire the guy who started the Vestron line for Lionsgate? I believe I read that somewhere.

Apparently Gaumont, so hopefully it's in Kino's new Gaumont deal.
