Each sale or take over comes with Execs, that have different ideas on how the company should be ran. It backfires and wash rinse repeat. The wholesale change overs are not healthy for the business. This is probably why Murdoch bailed on FOX.

So much fun today.
Given what a$$holes Disney are isn't it great that at the very least they have their house in order? Yes most Fox Catalog blurays will now go into the black hole but Disney+ is working well for them and the Disney/Fox Merger was done without a lot of drama. This is the way a business should be run. Disney allowed most of the Fox films like Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants to be released the catalog Fox 4Ks ready to be released were not cancelled. Small miracles. I do wish Disney would stay out of politics but it's their ball so they can say whatever they want. Even with the failure of Lightyear and West Side Story, they still have more successes than failures. Last edited by 50strat54; 08-03-2022 at 05:40 PM. |

Do you know which projects got cancelled at Fox / Searchlight /Blue Sky? The only one I remember is Nimona and Disney at least sold it to Netflix instead if shelving it for Tax write down.

Some context https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comm...he_former_fox/ Some of these got repurposed or found life with different distributors. Point is that mergers are chaos for productions. It's a bit unusual for projects that are in post-production to be shelved, but not unprecedented. WB would never sell off Batgirl and SCOOB to other distributors because they are part of IP they don't license out. That's a key difference between those projects and Nimona. (Also, Disney didn't sell Nimona to Netflix; Disney canceled the project, and the producer team of the film were essentially free agents able to sell their product to another studio, which they did, though it took nearly two years.) Maybe if WBD sells DC the Batgirl film could see the light of day, but that seems highly unlikely. Last edited by captveg; 08-04-2022 at 05:37 AM. |

Warner Bros. Discovery Reports 92.1M Combined Streaming Subscribers In First Full Earnings Since Merger
The company is on a mission to find billions of dollars in cost savings. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/bu...gs-1235192127/ For the first time since WarnerMedia and Discovery Inc. merged earlier this year, the combined Warner Bros. Discovery reported full quarterly earnings, outlining its plan to fully integrate the two companies, and find billions of dollars in cost savings along the way. But of course it’s streaming that remains top of mind for Wall Street, and WBD opted to combine all of its direct-to-consumer subscribers into one number for the quarter, disclosing a total DTC subscriber base of 92.1 million, inclusive of HBO Max and Discovery+. WarnerMedia had reported 76.8 million subscribers to HBO or HBO Max last quarter, with Discovery reporting 24 million DTC subscribers, suggesting that the total number of subscribers fell from Q1 to Q2. |

Two radio talk shows discussed Batgirl today…Big News. Disney didn’t cancel New Mutants or any project nearly complete. Disney handled the merger well. In any merger people lose jobs, mostly at the company (Fox) that gets swallowed up. |

There's good news and bad news for fans of The CW's Superman & Lois series. The good news is that the series is returning for a third season, making it one of the few DC shows on the network not to be given the ax. The bad news is that the series has had its connections to the Arrowverse severed. Despite minor crossovers with Arrow and Supergirl over the course of the first two seasons, Superman & Lois is now being treated as a completely standalone project, set on an Earth where Tyler Hoechlin's Superman is the only costumed hero.
Showrunner Todd Helbing indicated this choice was mandated by DC, telling Looper, "Part of how this all folds in the big picture with DC is ultimately a DC decision. I'm sure there'll be more clarity in the future, but as of now, we're a different Earth in the DC Universe." |
