So I bought Pans Labyrinth but did not realize it was not an English movie, I do not mind subtitles but when you are always reading them you do not get to appreciate the picture. If I knew that I would've just bought the DVD version and saved a few bucks but oh well.

What's so funny to me is that you're not even the first person post in these forums about the very same issue with the very same movie. It amuses me to no end.

No offense to the OP or anyone else with opinions against subtitles, but: In a general statement I find it amusing that people complain about them and how some people avoid foreign films all together because of it. Many don't realize how great these films are and pass judgment over being stubborn and biased to subtitles. Some of the best films in recent years have been foreign films. And as Hollywood continues to drop the ball and continues to release mediocre films, I find that turning to foreign and classic films is great relieve. Pan's Labyrinth and The Orphanage are great films. Those to stubborn to read throughout the film and avoid watching them are missing out. |

I never use to like subtitled movies but now I actually prefer it. When I read it, it doesnt distract me from the picture or story or anything of the sort. It gets me MORE into the movie. By reading it I tend to follow everything very carefully and I wont end up getting bored or losing attention. Pans and Orphanage rock! Che was also a kick ass film!

I don't like subtitles either. Let's face it. Audio and video make a movie. If I can't understand the audio (language), that is a part of the movie being removed and reading subtitles doesn't make up for the difference or experience. I might as well go and read the book instead.
But, that's just me. |

After the first few minutes of watching a subtitled movie, I guess my brain makes some type of adjustment and the whole process becomes transparent. That's how it is for me anyway. I don't really even notice the subtitles.
I used to live in Puerto Rico and many times you would see a movie in English, but subtitled in Spanish. That used to bug me sometimes because I was trying to learn Spanish. I would find myself trying to read the subtitles because I was trying to improve my Spanish and it would give you lots of opportunity to learn a new word or phrase. That can be really distracting. |

I love subtitles as a poorly dubbed film is even more off putting. Pan's is a great film and deserves to be seen on blu. At least the OP did not make the mistake like the last person to title a thread like this and try to return the film as it was subtitled.

I feel the same way sometimes, but then a movie like Apocalypto makes
me glad they are out there, makes you expand your universe. |

subtitles never bother me....theres tons of high quality foriegn films out there that are great (mainly Horror/Fantasy for me)....
Pan's, Orphanage, and Let the RIght One In are 3 examples of really good films and movie making..... I do agree u forget ur even reading....and u really dont miss anything happening on the screen....its not like during heavy action scenes theres a heavy amount of dialog going on.... |

Did you not research the title at all before buying?
