Default y adapter for sub

I was at Frys electronics last night looking to get a better connecter for my sub and they tried to sell me a 60 dollar monster connecter for my sub. Does anyone have there sub set up that way and does it make a difference at all.

Noooooooo!! Don't be sucked into believing that the monster cable will give you better quality. The only thing MONSTER stands for is it's price. Buy this one at BB and you will be good to go http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1181832400292

i think what he meant was does having the Y make any difference or could you just plug a single RCA into one of your sub out jacks.

What 'erict' said; or any similar 'y-adapter' from Radio Shack. Some of the newer 7.2 AVR's even have dual sub (LFE) outputs.

I picked up a nice Y adapter and a 15' RCA cable from Radio Shack for less than $20. Stay away from Monster Cable.

Dont buy the overpriced Monster cables. I couldn't find any at Monoprice, which was disappointing. I did end up buying one at my local Radio Shack for $5. Does it make a sound diff? Im really not sure, but it just made since to do it that way. IMO.

I guess that could be what he means No it wont make a noticeable sound difference. On average you gain a couple of DB. It really helps more with the auto on feature of you're sub.

Read your subwoofer manual, most subwoofers only require one connection from the LFE channel from your receiver...

I believe the L/R connections on the subwoofer are meant to be used if the receiver have not LFE pre-out... In that case you would connect the L and R channel pre-outs to the L/R inputs on the sub and set the L and R used with the sub to large. That way you get the bass info from the L/R channels. I believe this was more pertinent before the days of 5.1 (remember dolby surround?)

I think spending the $5 or so dollars is worth the peace of mind if anything.

No problem there!

Also in the end if you want to use 2 subwoofers that Y-splitter will come handy! (check this article on Audioholics that explains why two subs are better than one!)

Try this website, I got all of my Y-splitters from them and they are as cheap as monoprice, and with excellent shielding and quality. The following is a 1 female/ 2 male Y-splitter you would need, and for only $4.48.

How many snake oil companies in the a/v industry bank on just this sort of sentiment? Monster and Pear Anjou cables come to mind. If a device does or adds nothing then it's not worth a penny, much less $5. This "peace of mind tax" is exactly what keeps so many peddlers of woo-woo nonsense in business.

Sorry, I don't mean to pick on you, especially when it's been demonstrated that a sub Y-splitter can add benefit. I just hate seeing people get conned out of money because they've been psychologically manipulated into buying something they don't need.

I would agree with you except I have never seen anything labeled Monster for $5.

Actually if you use the search function and look up old threads you will see that simply increasing your subs output via the receiver will achieve the exact same effect.

Some people even laughed when they realized the first thing they did after adding the splitter was turn down the sub in the receivers menu.

You gain no additional performance from a Y splitter.

There you go. The only benefit a Y-splitter adds is the same that can be achieved without paying the "peace of mind tax".

That's what I was going to do except when you add shipping it's just as easy to go get one at a local store like BB or RS
