Vincent Gallo was funnier than that, he didn't just call him fat, he called him a "fat pig with the physique of a slave trader"

(his answer was "No.") to Ebert saying how he "hated hated hated hated hated" North to Vincent Canby speculating that "It's as if Michael Cimino sold his soul to the devil for the success of The Deer Hunter, and the devil's just come around to collect" in regards to the failure of Heaven's Gate.

The best review ever though is Ebert's review of a little-known French movie called Un indien dans la ville (translates to An Indian In The City; redubbed and released here as Little Indian, Big City). That piece should have won him a Pulitzer, since...well just read it:
In addition to his review of North, which is so spot on, I also loved his take on Tom Green's Freddy Got Fingered when he said "This movie doesn't scrape the bottom of the barrel. This movie isn't the bottom of the barrel. This movie isn't below the bottom of the barrel. This movie doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence with barrels."

I remember channel surfing and stopping to watch Siskel & Ebert for the first time. They had differing opinions on the film they were reviewing and were insulting each other mercilessly but calmly. Literally calling each other names. It was hilarious. Like an SNL comedy sketch from the 70's. I was hooked...

For each post you want to quote, click the button to the right of the QUOTE button. When you're done, click the QUOTE button itself.

It should be pretty straightforward from there.

This is actually one of the reasons why A Dangerous Woman has never gotten a DVD or Blu-ray release.

I showed that one at the cinema, but only remember bits and pieces of the film, maybe I saw it all, maybe not. Either it had no appeal and I couldn't be bothered to watch it all, or I did and have flushed the movie from my memory banks. But after reading that review, I'd buy it on Blu-ray (only at a reasonable price, like a Kino release) just because I now appreciate the poor-ness of it all, as so lovingly detailed by Ebert. Disney never issued this on US home video and probably never will. (I'm surprised they didn't force this one into that bundle in their old KL deal!) Heck, I even found a way to love "North" from the same year, and would even buy the Blu-ray if it turns up cheap enough (it's Sony, maybe Mill Creek will release a budget copy?) And speaking of critical zingers, I loved Jeffrey Kauffman's quip: 'North' goes south.

Yeah, North is mind boggling bad. You just have to wonder how none of the actors said "No, I'm not doing it this way. It won't work" which from what I've read, happens often on film sets.

"Funnier"? Maybe if you're 13 years old. Sound like a pretty insecure and churlish response to me.

It's obviously a terrible thing to say, but "physique of a slave-trader" conjures such a specific image that I've always admired that insult. Makes me laugh every time.

Or you can just hit "post reply" after selecting everything you want to quote.

And yes, it works across multiple pages. It even works across multiple threads.

Yeah, you don't really get more vicious than that.
Which by the way sounds an awful lot like Jungle 2 Jungle https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jungle_2_Jungle.

That makes sense as J2J is a remake. Apparently Ebert gave J2J one star as being "just forgettable" versus the original being memorably bad.

I don't come here for slapfights with dullards and you can appreciate verbal skirmishes without necessarily having a dog in the fight, but carry on

Wow, I had no idea, that's awesome.

One more quick question you might know the answer to:
If I use the standard quote function, an embedded quote in the message I am quoting does not appear, only the message I click quote for. The nested quote is not there. If I need that extra quote for whatever reason, I manage by using my computer's clipboard to manually replicate the effect, but is there a way to do this in a single click? Or is this just a browser anomaly on my end?

They’ve mentioned Blaxploitation has rarely done well (this seems true for all labels) but I’d love to not have to spend 150 on Cotton Comes to Harlem.

Wow. I just saw in another post that VinSyn is going to release Flesh and Fantasy (1943), a Universal title that Kino apparently was never offered in their Universal deals. Actually, I'm quite surprised that VS has the rights, but nevertheless quite pleased, as they always do quality product.

One of the above titles is also being considered. Deranged, Report to the Commissioner and Truck Turner were part of the second deal, not first. Seizure was a Scorpion release, not an MGM title.
