Default Vista SP2 will stop TMT2 and WinDVD 9+BD from working

I went to watch a BD and low and behold - they would not open, not under tmt2 or WinDVD 9 +BD!!!! I had recently changed my video drivers and so I rolled them back. No joy - then I looked around and found that Vista SP2 was killing BD playback. I uninstalled SP2 and now I'm up and running smoothly again! Before you install any OS SP - wait and see how it affects other users machines !!!

Vista Home Premium SP2 here - works as good as ever.
TMT 3 and WinDVD 9 both.

To everyone

Mind this is only with TMT2 and WinDVD 9. TMT3 is fine with SP2 (but I see no need to upgrade yet).

My WinDVD 9 canked out at the same time as TMT2. You know I'm one of the biggest supporters of HTPC just ran into this snag and letting others know what might be the problem. It's no illusion that it started working perfectly again since dropping SP2 - I have the same OS as you do (mine actually worked fine with SP2 for about a month and after I applied the most recent Nvidia drivers - it died - rolled them back and it still wouldn't work - TMT gave me a message saying that this version of TotalMedia Theater was not compatible with my version of Windows - but the BD advisor had all green checks - hmmmm?) Went on line and found similar problems from others - uninstalled TMT and uninstalled SP2 then reinsatlled TMT added all the current updates and presto - back in business. I don't use WinDVD 9 often but it wasn't working either. I'm going to test it and see if its working now.

No TMT 3?

EDIT: It seems there was a new update to TMT 3 from 3.0.1.120 to 3.0.1.140

Just applied this *140* patch - still working.

Odd that it started after the new video driver and removing SP2 fixed it where rolling the driver back did not.

When you "rolled " the Nvidia drivers back,.... did you do a complete clean before the reinstall ? If not,... you need to use a program called "Drive Cleaner Pro" to remove all traces of old drivers before installing new ones. Otherwise there are "leftovers" that can "contaminate" your new install and cause inconsistencies and problems with some programs.

I use Ccleaner to get rid of residue drivers and orphaned registry entries I'm also familiar with Drive Cleaner Pro tks

p.s. it also repaired WinDVD 9 to regualer working order - just finished watching the Knowing on BD (used TMT2)- that movie was very intense!!!!
