The licenses on all three are expiring. They have a deal on the site: all 3 for £39.

Hmm... may be worth paying that bit extra in all honesty

Like others, I have also had in-stock item orders cancelled for no apparent reason.

Hit (previously known as Base) are usually reliable for items that are not in the process of going OOP. With those (including pre-orders that sell out quickly after the release) they have a spotty record. Again, my most recent experience was positive (although an item that is listed as in stock should still not go on back order upon making a purchase), but it's impossible to tell whether that was just a lucky coincidence or a sign of things changing for the better.

I always found Base reliable. Their items always arrived by Swiss post I remember. Never used Hit. Magpie I've always found reliable. They've cancelled on me once on an item I was warned was going out of print but I guess that can happen with any seller.

Because MusicMagpie have a live stock database, generally the only time a cancellation happens is for an OOP or low stock secondhand item when either two people order at the same time or when their eBay/Amazon outlets haven't auto-updated quickly enough. They are one of the few webshops I actually trust not to mess orders up or leave you waiting for days for a dispatch.

Sure, but if the book is your main point of interest (which it ought to be if you have the Blu-ray, IMO) then waiting for a standard edition makes little sense.

I see Dvdbeaver have their review up for The Bullet Train. The Eureka release looks rather nice compared to the Twilight Time one.

Yeah I saw that earlier on my lunch break! Seems like a new restoration with far better detail, though the teal lean will annoy a lot of people I bet. I'm happy with it, looks great to me and look forward to mine arriving!

In fact I pre-ordered Revenge and Samurai Reincarnation just last night too, as well as Arrow's Game Trilogy (and bought Arrow's The Executioner yesterday too, with The Street Fighter Trilogy arriving later this month; and Radiance's Yakuza Graveyard next month too). Keep these Toei titles coming!

Looks like an old HD master with all the sharpening, black crush, and clunky "grain".

dvdcompare.net has details of the different versions and a beaver link. The Eureka release has a good range of extras (with running times where necessary):
  • Audio Commentary on the theatrical version by Japanese film experts Tom Mes and Jasper Sharp (2023)
  • Kim Newman on Mad Bombers in Cinema - 2023 author/critic interview (16:22)
  • Tony Rayns on The Bullet Train - 2023 author/critic interview (26:52)
  • Off the Rails: Junya Sato’s biographers on the making of The Bullet Train - 2023 interview with film writer Tatsuya Masuto and film critic Masaaki Nomura (20:12, in Japanese with English subtitles)
  • Big Movie, Big Panic: Junya Sato on The Bullet Train - 2016 director interview (24:41, in Japanese with English subtitles)
  • Japanese Theatrical Trailer #1 (3:06)
  • Japanese Theatrical Trailer #2 (1:30)

Not the biggest fan of the teal on the Bullet Train release, but I'll take it for the extra clarity of the image.

Can't say I like what I see, either. I was hoping for the master the German Subkultur Blu-ray used back in 2013, or an improved version of it. (Caps-a-holic comparison between Twilight Time and Subkultur)

Wonder if the upcoming Discotek Media version will use the same master.

I'll bet it's the same master. However, Discotek has been tweaking things here and there, so it's possible it might look slightly different.

On this, just noticed Eureka only had 8 copies left in stock (I bought one - so now down to 7). No idea if this is indicative of the set going OOP though. However, worth noting, RareWaves had stock the other day - now they don't.

Eureka posted a 'last chance' notice for it (it's in this thread a couple of pages back) so it looks like it really is down to the last few.

I know we've all had plenty of chance but it does make me sad seeing so many wonderful movies go OOP. I do feel for the next generation of collectors that are going to miss out on the proper Masters of Cinema series.

If you have any interest in silent cinema, German cinema, or Murnau, run - do not walk -to get a copy. The set is fantastic.
