I'll try this out when it hits GamePass. I liked the 'Street Fighter II' back in the day and enjoyed the 4th one; but since then, Capcom's approach to fighting games as a whole has been dreadful, we'll see if the new management can get things back on track.
Over the years the 'Street Fighter' series has been able to add some characters with memorable design (Juri is really cool), however the new characters here don't really grab me, they mostly look like generic Pixar characters. But I find this series' biggest weakness has always been a lack of characters I enjoy playing. Of the fighting games I play, it's probably the worst for that. My favorite is SoulCalibur, where, even though I have several mains, I actually enjoy playing as almost all the characters. Anyway, what I've seen so far from this is neither here nor there for me. The visuals are well realized on a technical level, but lack some of the personality I've always loved about this series. The gameplay looks fine enough. |

Rank your favorite Street Fighter Characters:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ter_characters Ken Dee Jay Ryu Vega Sagat Fei Long Cammy Chun Li Blanka M. Bison T. Hawk Balrog E. Honda Guile Dhalsim I've played other versions with newer characters, but they don't seem to stand a real chance against the classics and don't have the impact most times. Hopefully this new game changes that. Ken, overall, seems like the most effective character for me with his faster spin kick, flaming uppercut and strong kick impacts and range. If I try the same kick attacks and timing with Dhalsim's long legs or Guile's pointed foot kicks, they just don't land most times and the enemy counters them. With Ken, the kicks land and are more effective. I often felt like the Street Fighter 2 games were rigged in that sense, or maybe I just need more practice. I did read the CPU cheated many times, so there you go. |

This will be a large roster from the base game, so that's hopeful.
Samurai Shodown PS4 version had so many key characters as expensive DLC that I avoided it entirely for the DLC and hardly play that base game, preferring the much better pixel Samurai Shodown 2 classic over the newer game. If the city is tiny, I'll wait for a sale on this one. But if the map unlocks new hidden map areas, I'll consider this on release. |

Making old characters paid DLC in a new sequel is a good way to irk fans. This was one of the many cheapo moves that caused 'Dead or Alive 6' to be a brand damaging/destroying entry in its series. It doesn't go over as badly with 'Mortal Kombat' because at least it feels like NeatherRealm rebuild their characters with new models, animations and tweeked moves each time.
But when they try to get me pay for a fighter who looks the same (with a little of the latest Unreal version polish) and plays the same as the last game, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I think these days, fighting games that recycle old characters should really plan to start sequels with massive rosters so that players feel like they're getting a base game that is a big step up in content from the base game of the previous entry. |

There are no gameplay previews from any one else yet it seems. Capcom has this game locked up from previews other than what they show directly.
Street Fighter 6 looks promising, as all the classic fighters have some cool new moves in their arsenal. I was watching Ken do a fire rapid kick against an opponent that I never saw before. I wanted to switch to 6 button mode in the demo, but the game forced me back into the city create a player mode each time I start the demo. That mode is so slow with all the awful text and prompts, but it's good the game lets you skip through all that BS. Just let me play the game. I think you have to go through that mode each time in the demo to unlock 1 vs 1 fighter with Ryu vs Kyle. The Kyle fighter is decent but I'm not a fan of his style. The gameplay is responsive and looks good. I see they're trying to cash in on pre-order special outfits. A season pass, I'm sure new fighters will arrive. Tekken 7 has been going with new fighters for years now. Dead or Alive 6, that game is as old as the hills, and it's clear Team Ninja Tecmo have long since left it in the past it seems to work on new ideas and games. I don't blame them. Each game was pretty much the same thing as the first 2 Dead or Alives pretty much. Virtua Fighter 5, the floaty jumps ruin that game series for me. I'm waiting to land and the player kicks me before I reach the ground. Then it's just back and forth waiting for the other player to get up off the ground, or with cheap ground hits. Ring out is a pain too. I'm waiting for a fighting game with martial arts that is like Mortal Kombat 1, but without any fancy special magic fireballs or flashy special effects. Sort of like the old Ye Ar Kung Fu, but without that ridiculous floating jump that messes up the landing spot of the hero. Dead or Alive games. Mostly a barrage combo of attacks. Rinse, repeat. Tekken. Sparks fly on impacts. Not too many fireball type attacks thankfully. Mortal Kombat. Most fighters have good kicks and punches. For earlier games, the AI enemy was merciless and relentless. Street Fighter. Lots of weak fighters, some very strong ones. Bloody Roar: You could survive as human or beast mode. Virtua Fighter. Floaty jumps, and lots of fallen opponents to get back up. King of Fighters. Well-rounded kicks and punches of most fighters. Samurai Shodown. Good variety of fighters, but some seriously weak ranged fighters for their weapon. |

I’ve learned my lesson from Street Fighter 5, where I had to buy it essentially 3 times to get all the characters. Spending way over $100.
Comparing that with Tekken 7 ultimate edition I bought last year for less than $20 to get all the characters/dlc. I’m at point of my life where I don’t need to play any games/movies day 1. I have so much backlog that I could spend decade to play/watch them all. I’ll wait for sale. And for any fighting game, I’ll wait for “ultimate” edition to come out. |

I also think its kind of a false comparison to say tyou purchased Tekken 7, 7 years after it was released and got everyone for $20. Well duh bc the game was old by then but if you purchased it at launch and kept up with the season passes as they came out, you'd be paying far more. Its no different than SFV, which you also could have gotten for $20 last year with everyone |

In hindsight, I would have preferred to not have bought SFV at day 1, and waited till last year to get it at $20 too. |

No way I'm paying MSRP but these reviews have me intrigued, especially since it sounds like the game is much more accessible than most fighting games. My son has never played a fighting game and this could be perfect for an into to the genre.

I like the game, but those dialog boxes remind me of some of the boring RPG dialog boxes that never seem to end. More importantly though, the combat was responsive and fun, though I might have to switch to classic mode 6 buttons as I don't want any special moves automatically performing so often/easily. |
