Default Deep Impact on Blu-ray

Any word of this title ever coming out by paramount? I am just after watching it on DVD ( i know ) and think it would be great to see on blu-ray. As for the whole deep impact/armageddon thing. Armageddon was good but was very in your face action and less character development than solid Deep Impact

Yeah they had news last year the Paramount was going to release
some catalog titles on blu-ray and Deep Impact was mentioned!!
Use the search box and it should bring up the news about it

I too would love this title on BD...

I just got some great titles from the mid 90's & this sadly is one that isn't yet available...

Thanks for the heads up. Added to my wish list.

Deep Impact is definitely my favorite of the two "asteroid" movies from 1998. I am a planetary scientist and the bad astronomy in Armageddon (an asteroid the size of Texas...that looks like some craggly looking thing... come on! Utter ridiculousness!)... Suspension of disbelief can only be taken so far. Not saying Deep Impact is perfect on this account, but it is a lot more plausible, and it's more plausible plot helps me to care more for the predicament these people are in. Another reason for picking this up is that my DVD copy is a letterboxed version, so needless to say that it looks horrid on my TV.

Confused - do you think that the Blu-ray won't be letterboxed on the same display? Or did you mean that the DVD copy is NOT letterboxed, and therefore looks terrible as the composition is off?

It was an older DVD release. Rather than appear in OAR and filling most of the screen (2.35:1 so with black bar at top and bottom), the DVD is pillarboxed and has black bars at top and bottom. So it was designed with 1.33:1 screens in mind, and not widescreen displays. The Blu-ray presumably will appear in OAR and will not have this problem.

Ah, the term you were looking for is 'non-anamorphic'. It would have been a recycled laserdisc transfer, which were common back in the early days of DVD.

I love Deep Impact. Other than Frodo on the motorbike its very well thought out. Morgan Freeman makes a great president.

People have been begging for more of Spielberg's movies to be released on Blu-ray and this is what we get? What a jip.

All I can say is hopefully one of his better movies will come along soon to make up for this debacle.

Spielberg was one of the Executive producers of Deep Impact as part of his role with Dreamworks at the time.

100% agree!! Awesome movie, Armageddon was a joke compared to DI imo.

I remember watching the trailers just before it came out, I was blown away from the mega tsunami. Just a brilliant amazing film.

I also love the two main characters, adorable.
