You're still going to be missing out on the extensive Arrow extras, including a fantastic shot-by-shot (and sound-by-sound!) split-screen comparison between the Italian and the AIP versions of Sabbath. Sunday also includes Bava's co-directorial debut, I, Vampiri (in SD) and a lengthy trailer reel, among other bonuses.

I just watched this Kino Blu-ray of the Italian version of Black Sabbath, and I loved it.

It's a beautiful-looking film, and everything seems to jump out of the screen on this disc. This is only my second experience seeing a Mario Bava film, after watching the Kino Blu-ray of Black Sunday last week, and it's my first time seeing a Bava film in color. The cinematography and use of color made me think of the Criterion title, Kwaidan.

Michèle Mercier (Rosy in "The Telephone") is a strikingly beautiful actress, and I should probably check out some of her other movies soon. If anyone can steer me in the direction of her other cinematic highlights, then I'll be thankful.

After reading all of the Bava threads here, I'm glad that I made the decision to go with the Italian versions of both Black Sunday and Black Sabbath (I'm restricted to Region A by choice, because I would quickly overspend if I had the equipment to watch Blu-rays from other regions.).

After Black Sunday and Black Sabbath, I'll have to look for some more Bava films later on.

Planet of the Vampires would be a good choice.

Thanks. That's what I'm leaning toward, since I should be able to grab the Kino Lorber release for a low price this fall.

His use of color is like no one else's, you should definitely watch more of his classic horrors. Kill Baby Kill is my highest rec, if you can find the DVD (who knows if it will ever make it to bluray). Bay of Blood is a great time if you can deal with the serious gore. Hatchet for the Honeymoon, Blood and Black Lace, and Baron Blood are lower tier but still interesting visually.

Not horror at all, and very silly, but his Danger Diabolik is a real blast.

I can't wait for Planet of the Vampires!

Out of the trailers on the Kino Blu-rays on Black Sunday and Black Sabbath, Baron Blood is the one that intrigues me the most. I like Joseph Cotton's work in so many films.

I'm really intrigued by the premise of Bay of Blood, and I might buy it later on if I decide that I've got the guts to watch it. Haha.

The only other movie I've actually seen with her is Shoot the Piano Player which she isn't in for very long, but she apparently was the lead in a whole series of movies about a character named Angelique and she was incredibly famous at the time. They do not look like my kind of thing.

This looks interesting. Almost like an equivalent of the Brigitte Bardot movies of the era. I'll keep my eyes open for the Angelique movies if they ever see the light of day on Blu-ray.

On Amazon, this is listed as "Black Sabbath: Standard Edition Remastered"

Did Kino fix their dark, green transfer of the Italian cut, or has this edition always been called "Remastered"?

Looks like only the AIP cut, though.

What exactly is the deal with the Bava titles? Should we be expecting another label to pick up the license for the Euro versions in the near future?
A Bay of Blood and Black Sabbath 4Ks would be a game changer.

Word has it the guy who owns most of the rights decided to massively increase the licensing costs, so both Arrow and Kino said "no thanks" and didn't renew any of them. B&BL isn't owned by the same guy as most of the others, hence why that one is getting a new release.

There's a French 4K of Black Sabbath out there from 2021 but it's not english-friendly and it's now OOP and very expensive.

I’m really only into the Karloff part of the trilogy so what ever gives us the best version of that is what I’m in for

Alfredo Leone? I’ve worked with him on a project, and he’s really good to negotiate with. However at 97, he may be getting financial advice that he wasn’t before.

Having experience with Bava properties, the sad fact is that they don’t sell in the quantities you would expect.

Who controls his interests within the next two years if you catch my drift?

Yeah, I get what you’re saying. I have no idea where the rights will go.
