Even though I wasn't fond of the movie I thought that the audio was fine. The audio to me sounded very loud and clear. However I felt that "The Dark Knight" would have been a better movie to try it on.

would of made no difference because lossless=lossless. In Australia I will be getting the Paramount release which will most likely be in Dolby TrueHD and I may be importing the Director's cut from the US which I can also compare the codecs. I'm curious to if Warner Bros. tampered with the mix for the Blu-ray release because of all these whisper quite issues I'm hearing about.

TrueHD=DTS-MA..........just make sure DRC does not engage on your player/preamp for TrueHD and these 2 codecs are equal.......lossless is lossless. |

Like others have said in the thread, lossless is lossless, so I didn't have a problem with them trying DTS on Watchmen. I know some others will disagree about them both being pretty much identical, but that's beside the point.

I know "The Dark Knight" has a DolbyTrue. What I'm saying is was the "Watchmen" a good movie to try it on. I know "supposedly" that DolbyTrue and DTS-HD are the same because they both are loseless.

It really doesn't matter cuz lossless is lossless. Wjat matters is how the audio was put into the movie ie Rambo DTS hd sounds loud as hell because it was intended to do so.

Now this is really interesting.
Region A = Warner Bros. = VC-1 = DTS-HD Master Audio 24-bit/48KHz Region B = Paramount = MPEG4-AVC = Dolby TrueHD 24-bit/48KHz |

I am with Swordfishblue, lossless=lossless if it is done right. Warner has not done right on most of there Blu-ray's when it comes to audio. Most of there BD's are only DTHD 16-bit and not very loud. The DTS-HD MA 24-bit audio track on Watchmen was a welcome in surprise. I am looking forward to the 7.1 DTS-HD MA audio track that is rumored for the Lord of the Rings Trilogy coming out in the US Nov 3rd. |

IF The Dark Knight was originally mixed in 24-bit, then a lossless 16-bit would also mean a loss in quality. Likewise, IF Watchmen was originally mixed in 16-bit, then a lossless 24-bit may not neccessarily yield better results. In cases like this lossless=lossless arguement will not apply. Of course, we will never know what the original studio mix is unless someone from the inside can officially confirm it. Watchmen is also the first high profile Warner title I know that has 24-bit audio. Most, if not all Warner titles before Watchmen has always been 16-bit. Other than the Director's cut, this release might just ignite a whole new level of Dolby TrueHD vs. DTS-HD MA and VC-1 vs. AVC. Then again, I'm not a fan of this film to buy any of the BD. And you don't have to worry a single thing about Lord the Rings. New Line Cinema handles their own authoring. And all of their releases has been in DTS-HD MA and that is likely to continue with LOTR. Rambo (The new one) is another great film to show off as a test movie.

Warner has been handling New Line releases for awhile now. As such, all of the New Line releases for the better part of a year have used TrueHD. Not to say that LOTR won't follow the Watchmen model, but there's a good chance it'll be TrueHD. Run Fatboy Run, released September 23, 2008, appears to be the last New Line title to see DTS audio.
