THE EMERALD FOREST (1985)
• NEW Audio Commentary by Filmmaker Edgar Pablos and Film Historian Nathaniel Thompson
• Theatrical Trailer
• Reversible Art
• Limited Edition O-Card Slipcase
• Dual-Layered BD50 Disc
• Optional English Subtitles
Cool. Hope they finally fix the subtitles on this one, since the last one falsely advertised English subs and only had subs for the foreign speaking parts, not the entire film.

Hi all!

Some folks seem to appreciate my KL Shop availability snapshots so here's a quick update at this relatively quiet moment between sales. Additions and corrections invited! (Also, I haven't been able to keep up with the thread, so unfortunately it's extremely likely that I will be duplicating some of captveg's updates at the very least.)

As I indicated a month ago, KL Shop status, which never perfectly mapped to print status at large, has an even weaker correlation following Technicolor’s warehouse move earlier this year. There is a KNOWN DELAYS list on the Order Support page:

If we're not accepting orders on an item there can be a variety of reasons, but two reasons (1) extended wait on re-order inventory and (2) we simply get too many angry complaints when order is held up.

Majority of OOP items would be from the While Supplies Last list. We're re-ordering inventory all of the time.
If you want certainty as to the status of any of these titles I can only recommend contacting Order Support.

IIRC, it was also mentioned at some point that Coming Home, Run Silent, Run Deep, The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming, and The Big Country were renewed by KL. I'm guessing the first three might get reissued similar to the others lately with new encodes/subtitles/maybe extras, and I wouldn't know what's up with The Big Country release. I remember someone asked about if KL was considering it for 4K and the KLI had said no at the time, although it was a "very good" seller on Blu-ray.

Didn't realize that was on blu. As an aside, younger Redford looks like a guy who was on one of our group vacations years ago. He was super charismatic and had the 'it factor' where pretty much ladies would throw themselves at him and compete for his attention, and he was just a regular guy, not in a band or any kind of celeb, etc.

If I remember right, Kino originally planned four big sales this year, March, June, September, December. The last June sale postponed to July (and ended early August) but Kino said that it wouldn't affect their original plan for the Septembet sale. Hence, two big sales in a relatively short period of time.

Dear KLI,

Any word on whether the 146-minute broadcast cut of Babes In Toyland will be included on the Blu-ray? If it ups the price I promise we’d be willing to pay for it.

Our announcement noted the running time and extras.

This was a Walt "Scorpion Releasing" Olsen request title which we mainly acquired because it was already remastered in HD by the studio. We had no plans of doing a special edition.

Coming November 21st!
https://kinolorber.com/product/babes-in-toyland

Babes in Toyland (1986)
• Includes both the Original 1.33:1 Fullscreen and the 1.78:1 Widescreen Ratios
• Theatrical Trailer
• Optional English Subtitles

Color 96 Minutes 1.33:1/1.78:1 Rated G
Enter the magical, musical world of Toyland in this heartwarming holiday classic starring Drew Barrymore (E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial) and Keanu Reeves (Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure)! Once a bright and cheerful community, Toyland is in great danger from the terrible Barnaby (Richard Mulligan, The Big Bus) and his scary creatures who live in the forest of the night. The only person who can save Toyland is Lisa (Barrymore), a little girl from Cincinnati who lands in Toyland on Christmas Eve. But since Lisa, a very “grown-up” little girl, doesn’t believe in toys, she needs special help from the wise but impish Toymaster (Pat Morita, The Karate Kid), the dashing and gallant Jack Nimble (Reeves) and the mother-of-many-children Mrs. Hubbard (Eileen Brennan, Clue). Together they muster an army of toy soldiers and teddy bears to drive the villainous Barnaby and his nightmare creatures out of Toyland! Wonderfully directed by Clive Donner (What’s New Pussycat?, A Christmas Carol).

It does seem very likely that the first three will be reissued as BD-50s, and given what we have seen go out of print vs. stay in print from MGM, I would be a little surprised if we didn't see at least a new BD of The Big Country…although there was an MGM BD prior to the KL edition.

Worth noting that The Big Country was shot in Technirama, so a UHD likely hinges on MGM doing a new scan or remaster from the 8 perf negative. (I say remaster as it received a photochemical restoration prior to the remastering for Blu-ray).

Doubt another Blu-only is necessary as the Kino Blu is gorgeous and fixed the geometry issue MGM's bare-bones disc had. I would happily upgrade if a 4K were to happen. Excellent film and one of many greats from William Wyler.

KLI,

Would KL be interested in Marisa Silver's Permanent Record (1988) from a Paramount deal?

(I don't usually ask about specific titles, but I'm emboldened by the announcement of a Computer Chess BD, which I've wanted for a while—perhaps foolishly, given the limitations of the source! But it's one of my favorites.)
