Plus, if it was dubbed, I'd have to worry that where I am might only get the dub version rather than the sub one. At least now I know that no matter what, if we get it here in Montreal (Canada), it will be subbed. Thank God!

Mind you, i'm not against dub, actually i'm all for it, especially on home video, since I like to watch these movies with my daughters that don't read yet. Not that I'll be watching Godzilla minus one anytime soon with my 2 and 4 years old daughters haha. But they both love King Kong vs Godzilla (1962) and Destroy all monsters and they wouldn't be watching them if I didn't own the dubs. I still dislike dubs haha but i prefer my daughters being able to watch them, more options is always good.

I could see them doing a more-limited dubbed theatrical re-run later. I think they wanted to get this out as fast as possible, and enough people showed up for the Fathom Events Godzilla showings to support subbed releases.

Average people shouldn't be afraid of subs, but I know plenty of people actually do have a problem with them that they can't help.

Isn't that a Bong Joon-ho quote?

I'm being careful in avoiding online discussion as to avoid spoilers, including this forum. I'm really excited for this movie. I got the day off from work the night of the fan event and booked a ticket to see it in IMAX at AMC, then I'm going to high-tail it over to Regal shortly after to see it at their fan event in RPX! I hope each fan event will have different promotional swag.

Godzilla Minus One is gearing up for its release in North America later this year, and the new movie has made its debut on Rotten Tomatoes with a perfect score! Godzilla Minus One is a brand new take on Godzilla as it marks the first new effort from TOHO for the Reiwa era. It's been quite a while since we've seen a new Godzilla release in Japan, and TOHO is making a statement by making sure that Godzilla Minus One is different from what we have seen in both Shin Godzilla and Legendary's Monsterverse version of Godzilla that we have seen in action over the last few years.

Godzilla Minus One has been dominating the box office in Japan ever since it premiered earlier this month, and early word from those who have been able to see the film overseas has been positive as well. With the movie making its debut on Rotten Tomatoes, at the time of this writing it's currently at a 100% Fresh rating with five reviews logged so far. This is likely going to change over the next few weeks as more reviews come in, but it's an impressive debut for sure.

Nice start out of the gate. Not that I needed to see what reviews are saying. I can't imagine not loving this movie.

Is anyone's theater doing the Early Fan Event but not any regular showings later?

Who exactly is distributing this in the US? Funimation did the last one, but I don't think Toho has any sort of distribution channel in the US, so curious who is doing it for them?

Toho International, Inc., the Japanese studio’s U.S.-based subsidiary. I believe it's a first.

I don't think they have a home video department set up but considering Janus has acquired almost every Toho Godzilla film under one roof I'm expecting them to handle the US home video release some way. Maybe through Criterion, maybe through Janus Contemporaries, maybe through something else.

My nearest theater is showing it. I'm in disbelief but my eyes tell me it's true. My mental health needed a win.

Mine too, although I would drive to a different theater to see this if I needed to.

I'm waiting to see if my local theater has this. Won't know until tomorrow since they post showings on Tuesday ahead.

I was planning on taking a trip to Minneapolis in a 2 weeks to see this, but I may see it earlier now that I know theaters closest to me are showing it.

This is playing this weekend in theaters. Good to see it's at Cinemark too.
Godzilla looks evil in the trailer, but really monstrous, like a tornado or destructive force plowing through the city. Godzilla there to take even more away from the citizens, -1.

Only challenge is that these films are really not about Godzilla's story, but the human's struggle against a monstrous force as most Godzilla fans understand. So Godzilla only gets a short screen time in comparison to the humans.

I hope we get a Gozilla film where he's the lead character. No talking necessary, he can express through his actions.

For a Godzilla film, this does look interesting. I still have to see Shin Godzilla and wonder how these will compare. Have seen most of the other Godzilla films and own a few.
