Let me tell you who in the blu-ray camp didnt want vc-1 and really you wont be surpised when you hear it, Apple is the one who wanted to keep vc-1 out of it and panasonic belived they would get there was as did a few which of course you know now that Steve jobs is the head od Disney, this is why panasonic is using there avc codecs for quess who disney, no manuy people really know this but if you really thought about it you could fiqure it out, heres another thing that most dont know. the delays in the Panasonic and pioneer and sony are due to this, this is the software issue. they belive they wouldnt be using it so they went in thinking it wouldnt be used.

Yep it shows what a out and out snake oil salesman he is. Why people continue to belive him and follow him like he is the massiah is beyond me, If this was blu-ray the trolling would be unbearable but since its the messiahs format it is all ok.

You are surprised? Of course it's either your eyes, your display, or both. Hats off to you for at least trying to post that stuff out in the open. If it makes you feel any better, I'm sure there's plenty of lurkers who have seen what you posted, or will, but probably won't post because they know they'll be streamrolled by Microsoft and HD-DVD gestapo on that board. It may happen by inches, but the truth is going to get out there. Remember: All of these forums combined represent a VERY small sampling and percentage of people out there, including early adopter types. There's a lot of hardcore people that just don't even bother with things like Internet forums. Trust me: They find these things out. They know. The word ultimately spreads. ![]() So don't get too frustrated. ![]() Last edited by nyg; 09-30-2006 at 04:14 PM. Reason: please don't include pics in quotes |

Yes, I am a self admitted BD supporter, with over $2,000 dollars invested so far. Does that make me believe that HD-DVD is crap? No. At this point the releases are the same as far as PQ goes. What's going to make the difference now is the current advantage that BD holds in terms of studio support, and a better selection of BD players. The consumers aren't stupid either. Just like JTK said, the internet forums are just a very tiny piece of the population. I can tell by the education levels of most of my customers. Most people go to a store and expect to find experienced associates like myself and Brian to tell them what the best products are for them to buy. Thank god, that Brian and I give them unbiased opinions about both of the technologies, but when they ask the Inevitable question, "Which one would you buy"? I have to spill the beans and tell them what I have. The people who chose to place their heart, soul, and dollars into internet propaganda, are going to find themselves unhappy, and holding lighter wallets because of it. |

Nice pictures.
BTW, a display can cause this kind of thing but it will seldom if ever cause banding in blocks unless it is a really bad display. A typical display caused band will follow the contour of the greyscale in the source, which should never be in blocks like this. It is possible that display banding could enhance this kind of effect but it can only enhance shapes that are inherently in the source (unless, as noted, it is a really bad display! ![]() |

its a sony kdf42we655 3lcd.
![]() Hardly a "crap" set IMO. I've never seen this type of blocking happen in any other movie, and it doesn't happen in every scene during this color. plus you can see it when your rewinding it, pausing etc. It's not the display. |

![]() Myself, I find her not too shabby. I prefer Salma Hayek in a heartbeat though ![]() On topic, she was pretty good in the Tomb Raider flicks, and a great cameo in "Sky Captain" (now available on Blu-ray!) |

Granted, I've had to hack XP like mad, but you get my point. ![]() Ok I will give you that but XP for me crashed like mad, after the fifth total format and reprogram my dell when to the place it should be (You don't have to use your brain to hard to figure that one out) and bought an apple. Since no crashes and all i good in thee world of the purpleaardvark. I also know what you are thinking it wassn't from downloading to much porn. Bill Gates and his windows can go were his products are produced from and were most of his company talks out of. The piont was HD companies microsoft and toshiba both have bad reps. for crashing. Why should we trust them when the say their codecs are going to produce better pq. Apple is the Godfather in the Movie, music, photo, website ect... industies. I trust there MPEG2 and 4 to be better than anything else because they produce quaility not junk that needs to be fixed or hacked constantly. Speaking oof Porno when is the first BD Porn gona come out. I vote for Angelina to be the first star. ![]() |

![]() Sorry, but blaming your bad PC experience on MS isn't what this format war is about. VC-1 may not be a perfect codec, but it's a damned good one. |

Sorry I never spell check. But I have to disagree on the PC thing though. A product is only as good as the company producing it. Toshiba DVD players, well a little crash prone, MS programs and the new Xbox360 crash prone, HD DVD drive for 360 nice but crash prone as well, according to some one I know very well, something to due with over heating. VC1 had bugs to begin with and was lanched too soon to compete with MPEG4. Sound like something else we discuss alot here. So yes MS windows experence does have a place IMO seeing how windows is used in Xbox360, HD DVD and for VC1. It is a nice codec but it is not the end all of codecs. I noticed grain on my copy of Fire wall and LW, more than usal, could be my sammy player too.
But still no answer too my other question? Last edited by PurpleAardvark; 10-01-2006 at 03:45 AM. |

G'day from Australia !
I received my blu ray copy of Lara Croft - Tomb Raider along with a stack of other stuff from the States the other day. While all my other BR discs look stunning, the PQ of the Lara Croft BR disc was an extreme disappointment. On my display, the picture has a "matted" quality to it and is not "clean" at all and plenty of artefacts. I ran a side by side comparison with the BR & Standard DVD versions and there was little to no difference. In fact, I thought that the dvd looked a little better ! My display is an Hitachi 55" plasma (1080i). Anyone else ..... or is it just my eyes that need adjusting ![]() |
