But do double check if your black level is set correctly to begin with though! No need to check DV settings as the disc doesn't have DV |

Many Uni titles have this issue that they never reach zero black. The early titles were notoriously bad in this aspect. It's not really creative intent but more likely incorrectly mastered discs. |

I had forgotten that the UB820 will also tell you what the minimum luminance is so I checked both Oblivion and American Graffiti, and they were both 0.0050. Universal is still incorrectly mastering their discs after all these years.
Anyway, using the UHD Spears & Munsil disc, my HDR10 Black Level is now 48 down from 50 and DV is at 49. The tv has around 130 hours on it, so I'll recheck the levels again at around 200. Thanks for your help, guys. |

![]() On my previous panel the correct value was 50, on the new one, after the replacement, it's 48. My TV was not professionally calibrated, but on many movies I know backwards I clearly saw how the blacks were too elevated at 50. (even though the bars were still black; on my set they start to brighten up at 51) PS. You can also check if you have the dynamic tone mapping option enabled, it can elevate blacks in darker scenes, at least on my B8. PS2. I will check my disc tomorrow and let you know how it looks on my TV with both settings. Last edited by Mierzwiak; 11-27-2023 at 10:07 PM. |

How about they effectively go back and redo the UHD here. Bring back the razor sharpness.

I've often pondered WHY they even filtered it at all, in the first place...Weird, that. |

Movie is great. No one can really answer your question otherwise because it depends on preference. The 4k is softer with a warmer color tone and nice HDR, the BD is cooler in color with crisp details. There are cap comparisons you can look at.
I doubt the BD alone is much cheaper. |
