Given the crappy return policy, you might be better off selling it on Ebay yourself.

I bet if you put, new in box, just used for an hour or so, you'll get just about what you paid for it.

However, I would only do this, if your 100% its not defective, but it sounds like it probably is defective.

In which case, you would have to use the warranty aspect, and send it back to get fixed, then sell it, or just seal it back up, say you never opened it, and just take the crappy return policy they offer.

Hey Mike...what do you think of your HD-sub 10?

Haven't got it yet, but I'm sure despite this thread, its going to be a great sub.

I'm confident his sub is defective, given the specs and all the reviews in the AA thread, it simply does not jive with his opinion, not at all.

So as long as its not defective, which is probably very rare, I'm sure its going to be absolutely fine, and a very nice addition to my BIC PL-200.

I'm just sorry MJ79 got a bad one.

I'm going to speak my mind. I want to believe you simply got a defective AA sub. The sensible thing would be to contact customer service and exchange it. But your sudden and very public anti-AA smear campaign is suspicious to say the least. I'm a satisfied customer of two AA subs. That's all I have to say.

If you have the 15" on the way, I would wait and at least give that sub a chance. If in fact the 12" is defective, more than likely the 15" will not be, and that will be a mucher better guage as to the sound that these subs possess. You would not be out any more money by at least trying the second sub, and this will be a much better way to verify your situation and the sub's performance. Just my opinion on this anyway, mj. Sorry you are dissatisfied with the product up to this point.....

i came from a klipsch ksw10 and the AA sub destroys the klipsch in every way

im pretty sure the sub is defective.

if one last thing, check your receiver sub volume and make sure its at the right level......though im sure it is and the sub is defective.
hey it happens from time to time

A picture is worth a thousand words.

Last night, I ran test tones again to measure the output of the HD-SUB12 subwoofer. I took the measurements about 4 feet away and changed the level on the back of the sub and the receiver's volume. The gain for the sub in the receiver was held constant at zero.

Case 1. Sub level: 50%, Receiver Gain: 0, Receiver Volume: -15dB

20Hz, 74dB
25Hz, 92dB
31.5HZ, 99dB
40Hz, 98dB
50Hz, 92dB
63Hz, 92dB
80Hz, 97dB
100Hz, 86dB
125Hz, 81dB

This is the graph:

Case 2. Sub level: 75%, Receiver Gain: 0, Receiver Volume: -15dB

20Hz, 80dB
25Hz, 98dB
31.5HZ, 100dB
40Hz, 105dB
50Hz, 98dB
63Hz, 98dB
80Hz, 104dB
100Hz, 94dB
125Hz, 87dB

This is the graph:

Case 3. Sub level: 50%, Receiver Gain: 0, Receiver Volume: 0dB

20Hz, 94dB
25Hz, 101dB
31.5HZ, 101dB
40Hz, 108dB
50Hz, 105dB
63Hz, 104dB
80Hz, 105dB
100Hz, 96dB
125Hz, 92dB

This is the graph:

When i got my my hd-sub12s (2 of them) i just hooked up one. I tried just using the left input but got almost zero sound it was there but your head had to be right up on it, as soon as i hooked up the right then the sub came to life. I will be honest though i wasn't overly impressed at first, i mean my last sub was no slouch but there was improvement. I watched the iron hide sweep and it went lower than my other sub did. But then, i hooked up the other sub and just wow what a difference 2 subs makes. These two subs were defiantly night and day difference from my other sub. So maybe these things work better in pairs. I know lot of people here run dual subs and it really does make a huge difference.

The volume on both my subs is not even turned up half way, they are close to 10 o'clock and they are very loud. If i was running just one i would have it turned up more. And they do take time to break in. I just got a new mirage system and according to the manual it will take 100 hours for them to break in. Which is a while it would take you 50 days watching a two hour movie a day or less if you watch more but that is a significant amount of time. I can picture how they test the subs. put the sub in hook up to the amp play some test tones, does it work yeah works alright ship it out. We are not paying the big price tag for them to do all the testing so it sounds the way it was meant to right out of the box.

I was going to buy the klipsch 10s two of them actually it was 384 a piece which is like 768 and i am very glad i didnt. I have always liked them but they are just over priced the speakers are nice looking but the sub10 and sub12 are one of the ugliest subs out there. I bought 2 hd-sub12 for the same price as 1 sub10 and dual subs will beat out that sub10 any day, plus they look so much better, these are cabinets i wont mind keeping and doing upgrades on. Mine are very sturdy and you can always add braces to them can't you or add more support of some kind if need be.

For music i am not sure, i bought large front speakers for playing music and these for movies and so far these subs are well worth the money and are great value. Maybe you did get a bad sub or it is not hooked up right or maybe your expectations are way to high. But i can tell you this much i would recommend these subs to anybody.

On a side note i bought master and commander because of the hype of the opening scene, and you are right it is amazing. I could feel the cannon ball coming right at me and it was glorious

Oh great. Now you have me thinking about a 2nd Sub, aside from the HD-Sub15 I plan on ordering in a few weeks. Lol. I'm sure my 2nd PSW-10 (POLK AUDIO) will "balance" it out sufficiently tho'. (I hope! ) -- Yes, "Master & Commander" is one of the Reference Blurays for sure here it seems. Great movie overall, especially if you have a great set of speakers & Sub.

Aerodude, just keep one of your PSW10 to handle the upper end of the low frequencies in an effort to compliment the AA (this is what I do with my SVS and it does a nice job of what I ask of it to do)...I'm sure you would be fine if you dialed both subs in with your SPL meter.

Well I just wanted to say Im sorry for coming off strong and getting on the company and members. It's not you guys, I know I paid 137 so I shouldn't expect much , but the part that pisses me off is that I have to pay for a product that is defective to be returned. That is ridiculous. Manufacturers fault or ups, completly unfair.

That will teach me to read fine print a little better.

I'd be pissed too. And while I think you probably have a bad sub and this isn't indicative of the overall quality, I think people are jumping on your case too much too. It's obvious you have no agenda and have done a lot of testing.

Hope you get it worked out. If I were you, I would just refuse the 15" and take my business elsewhere, since you're unhappy about the build quality AND the sound quality.

oh i'm def. planning on doing that - I was just venting/joking about that really. I'm sure the Polk will compliment the AA HD-Sub15 fine.

Of course, if you did get 2 AA's, you could use all 4 subs and make Big Daddy real happy.

OP, I hope you do get this resolved to your satisfaction. Like I previously suggested, you could give the 15" a listen to validate your opinion based on what happened with the 12", but if you are that unhappy at this point, which I could understand, then I would refuse the 15" when it arrives as aramis stated.

I agree. It is ok to be pissed (I would be as well). The sub may very well be defective or maybe it just doesn't perform as well as you were expecting. Those with better results may have multiple subs or a smaller room. Budget subs can be a real steal if they perform well in your setup and room environment. But, in the end there is a reason higher end subs have a more expensive price tag.

Thanks again for the replies guys. I jet got off the phone with deep discount and they told me to take the sub out and put one of mine in. Since. Told them I have one. So I yanked my 12" dc audio Sub that's in my car ( yes the "Internet " sub I keep talking about. I'm gonna take pics and post in a new comparison thread. Along with some pics of the inside of my car enclosure since it might be in my house soon off a 1000 Watt plate amp. My sub is dual 4 ohm I hope this amp ( in the aa ) runs at 8 ohm cuz then I will just be able to wire my dc in series. Anyoneknow?
