I think that this is a classic example of people comparing mixes and not codecs. Lycans was a bad mix no matter what codec was used. For me that is what is starting to frustrate me.

Are you not happy with the mix or the codec?

You know what? You may never know. Unless you have two of exactly the same mixes on two different formats.

probably the mix, i was really gutted when i bought that title, shame because i really like the movie it deserved so much more. the only way i'll ever know is if sony do a pcm version like the first 2.

That's actually a pretty good receiver.

I too would like to know what speakers you're using.

trans from observing your posts and taking into consideration your comments that the lossy dts spiderman track is better than the lossless trued hd track and that the lossy dts x men 2 and lossless dts hdma sound the same i have to assume that you are mistaking volume with sound quality. just because a track is louder does not make it better, dolby tracks, both lossy and lossless are usually at a lower volume than comprable dts tracks.

Your probably right i have '300' on blu-ray and i always listen to the PCM track simply because it's louder, to be honest i haven't even listened to the TRUEHD track because i'm so happy with the PCM, i think most people are like me when there is multiple tracks on a blu-ray that alot of people will probably just play the loudest track, sad but true and maybe DTS knows this.

Wow... if the X2 DTSMA track sounds as good as the lossy core, then the core track must kick butt!! That's one of my reference tracks!!

No, nothing wrong with the hook-up. I said they sound very impressive, but to me, the DTS HDMA movies just sound better .

The sound on all these movies are great. Maybe I just need to re-watch them. I haven't watched any of the Spider-Man movies, 300 or I Am Legend for awhile.

I think he's concerned because you said a DTS-HD MA track sounds better than an uncompressed track (which is impossible unless DTS is "juicing" the mix).

I was only saying in my opinion the dvd DTS sounds the same as the blu-ray DTS-HDMA although the bit rate is way higher on the blu-ray of course, yes i agree it's one of the very best blu-ray soundtracks i've ever heard along with DOOM & 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS.

I wonder if WB is going to be the only TrueHD studio left. Sony appears to be shifting to DTS HD. There's no one left.

I feel bad for those who only have players that can decode TrueHD. They're going to get screwed over even more now.
Watchmen is DTS HD so maybe WB is moving in that direction....

How did you compare them? was it side by side? if you were switching disc back and forth then thats not really a good test.

DTS nor dolby is involved with any mix.

If people have a hard time finding "good" TrueHD tracks, look into Asian releases. There are a lot of US movies with PCM or DTS-MA, that are TrueHD in Asia. HK often has TrueHD, PCM, and DTS-MA tracks on one disc.

If you can't find good TrueHD tracks, you ain't looking. Or you're conpletely bias for no reason. They sound the same. Only way it should matter is if you need the core track.

The rolloff begins @16kHz. Since a lot of people lose their ability to hear high frequencies as they get older it's not as noticeable.

Puzzling since that track is too @768kbps, so even the frequency response of the 2 tracks don't match.

On top of that, with the exception of the Labyrinth Superbit, which, I don't know how much say Lucas had on that, every Lucasfilm or Lucas-related title that was released on dvd had Dolby Digital.

I know that that isn't concrete proof, but it is an observation.
To bad Dolby Digital 6.1 EX is still only matrixed .
